BANGKOK, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's leading opposition party Wednesday submitted a letter to the country's Election Commission (EC), urging it to stick to rule of law when considering a donation case against the ruling Democrat Party.
The letter was handed in to the EC representatives by Prompong Nopparit, spokesman of the leading opposition Puea Thai Party, Thai News Agency reported Wednesday.
Prompong said the move was aimed to encourage the EC to be cautious when considering the ruling Democrat Party's case.
The opposition spokesman was accompanied by Picha Pichitsilp, chairman of the Legal Reform Club, and some other supporters.
The Democrat Party, which has led the current coalition government, is being investigated for allegedly having received the donation of 258 million baht (7.75 million U.S. dollars) from the listed firm, TPI Polene Plc.
Thailand's charter has prohibited a political party from receiving donation of over 10 million baht (300,660 U.S. dollars) a year from an individual or a company.
One possible scenario, which might occur, is if the party is found of guilty, the Democrat Party might be dissolved.
