^ Nope, our Liberal Party is even further 'left' than your Democrats.

But they would think that the Liberal party are democrats, wouldn't they? Going by the name, I mean.

    erm, no.

traditionally the Labor party spends and spends and spends and spends some more, thereby causing more problems than they started with.

I have to disagree with you about Labor being voted in in times of trouble. Have a look at history.

Lily, no matter how much ANY govt had spent on infrastructure over the last decade we would still be facing a recession ... it is a GLOBAL problem, not just one for Australia.
Just forget any political leanings and consider what sort of situation we would be in without the "Howard" surplus to pay for at least some of the stimulus package.
And the ALP made much political milage out of the interest rate rises toward the end of the LIb rule ... those rises gave the Reserve Bank quite a bit of ammunition to use recently ! They still have a bit of leeway on interest rates, approx 3% more than the US and UK who are almost at zero, with nowhere to go, nothing in reserve. Without those rises we would be stuffed too.
The Kruddites might not like to admit it, but we would be a LOT worse off in this financial crisis without the financial legacy of the last govt.
