Suraphong steps down as elite card chief
February 20, 2009
Suraphong Triumchanchai yesterday stepped down as acting president of Thailand Privilege Card (TPC) after the Tourism Ministry told him to freeze the operations of the Thailand Elite Card on Wednesday.
Suraphong said he submitted his resignation letter to chairman Sorajak Kasemsuvan on Wednesday and the request took effect yesterday.
The firm was ordered to cease all activities, including selection of a new president and recruitment of new card members, meaning there was no reason to stay, he said.
He would run his own business including CVD magazine, which he bought back earlier, he said.
Sports and Tourism Minister Chumpol Silapa-archa said he expected that the government would decide the fate of TPC by end of this month.
The company has run without a president for some time. Its membership has reached 2,500 worldwide.
However, the programme suffered from losses to Bt1.14 billion in 2006.
