Dubai Beach Sex Brit Is Back Home
3:49am UK, Wednesday December 24, 2008
A British woman convicted of having sex on a Dubai beach has flown home - but the man she was arrested with remains in custody.
Michelle Palmer and Vince Acors
Michelle Palmer's lawyer said has been able to return to Britain "a few days ago".
Vince Acors, 34, of Bromley, south-east London, was re-arrested last night as he prepared to board a flight back to the UK.
Hassan Matter, who represented Palmer and Acors during their trial in Dubai, said: "She didn't have any problems because she had been in Dubai to work.
Vince Acors still in custody
"Vince has some procedures to go through because his visa has expired.
"He went to the airport but did not have the paperwork. He had to go back to prison to sort it out.
"We don't have any problem with the Dubai Public Prosecution. Everyone is doing their job."
Acors and Palmer were seen having sex on Jumeirah Beach in the early hours of July 5 after meeting at a champagne brunch in a five-star hotel.
The pair denied but were convicted of having unmarried sex and public indecency.
They were initially given three-month jail terms but these were suspended on appeal.
Palmer, 36, of Oakham, Rutland, was working in Dubai as a publishing executive but was sacked after the allegations emerged.
Acors' lawyer Andrew Crossley said he did not know when his client would be able to fly home.
"The situation is close to becoming farcical and Vince is severely disappointed," he said.
What a beautiful couple
