200 Yabba Tablets seized during routine Police patrol.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutum was on patrol when he noticed a motorbike with no number plate parked in front of the Pattaya Memorial Hospital that he wanted to check out. As soon as the driver of the bike saw Police, he attempted to escape along with his passenger. They did not get far and were stooped nearby. A search of both men and the bike took place and a total of 200 Yabba Tablets and a loaded hand gun were found inside the compartment under the seat. The two men, Khun Narai aged 24 and Khun Solot aged 20 were arrested and taken back to Pattaya Police Station. Both men refused to reveal where they bought the drugs from and were both charged with serious class 1 drugs charges which could see them put behind bars for many years or even put to death if the judge applies the maximum sentence permissible under Thai law, assuming they are convicted of the crime.

Police arriving at the scene on Beach Road at 3.45 a.m. found a crowd of foreigners around the prone victim, Dave Clark, 51, a British national who had suffered swelling to the face, a split lip and a broken nose which was bleeding profusely. He was taken to Pattaya Memorial Hospital.
Kiatsak Fongkoet was arrested in connection with the robbery and beating of a British tourist.
Witnesses said that the attack was carried out by a gang of four youths who controlled the beach at the front of the shopping mall, who attacked and robbed the victim before separating and running off.
Police later arrested one of the attackers, Kiatsak Fongkoet, 21, a resident of Srakaew province. During questioning he told officers that there were 10 gang members who congregated around the beach at the front of the shopping mall. The gang leader, “Mr Chai”, noticed Clark who sat drinking alone and encouraged other gang members to rob him. However, the victim fought back so the gang laid into him before taking his wallet and making a run for it. Kiatsak told officers that he got less than 100 baht from the share-out. He couldn’t make his getaway quick enough hence he was arrested.
Police know the identities of all the gang members. Most of them work in gay bars. After work they act as pimps controlling young prostitutes who sell their services along the beach, and rob foreigners, using the money to go out on the town. Police are going to round them up to face the courts. Kiatsak has been charged with gang robbery.

The dangers of casual sex in Pattaya

Farang says he’s lucky to be alive Anglo-Irish passport holder Daniel O’Leary, 66, says he is four million baht the poorer as he dropped by the Pattaya Today office to publicise his alleged financial tragedy. “I was having a night out on the town and picked up two Russian women who agreed to go back with me to my house in Soi Kaotalo,” he explained. “All I know for sure is that I woke up next morning with a headache and discovered two diamond rings, a gold cross and chain, a necklace, a laptop computer and other valuable items had disappeared.”

Not too surprisingly the women had done a bunk also. “I am a teetotaller,” stated Mr O’ Leary whose Thai wife and child are in England,” but I think one of the pair slipped a Mickey Finn (poisonous substance inducing sleep) in my orange juice whilst my back was turned.” He continued that he went down to the police station to obtain a loss report but the officer on duty gave him only a brief one which mistakenly replaced the reference to the orange juice by mention of a glass of beer. Mr O’Leary said he was in touch with his UK insurers and hoped they would soon give approval for replacement purchases. Interviewed by senior Pattaya Today staff, Mr O’Leary admitted he had not been to a hospital to check the orange juice dregs and to get a medical report after his alleged consumption of a poisonous narcotic, nor did he have all the purchase details of the stolen valuables. But he stressed that he felt he was lucky to be alive after his ordeal with the Russians and wanted his loss to be your warning that the dangers of casual encounters are not limited to sexually transmitted diseases.

Armed motorbike theft in North Pattaya.
Officers from Pattaya Police Station received a complaint from Khun Wachara aged 22 late on Monday night concerning his motorbike which had just been stolen from the North Pattaya Road. The case begins when Khun Wachara drove his motorbike to the Tawandaern Restaurant to pick up his girlfriend from work. As he was waiting for her, he was approached by Khun Wirapan aged 24 who Khun Wachara had known for some time. Khun Wirapan asked if he could borrow the motorbike so he could go and buy some Yabba Tablets. Khun Wachara refused to lend him the bike and Khun Wirapan left. Some minutes later he returned with a gun, which was later found to be a plastic copy, and demanded that he hand over his bike. Khun Wachara complied and Khun Wirapan sped off on the bike. Police managed to track down the bike and the suspected armed thief in Jomtien and he was quickly taken into custody and disarmed. At the Dongtan Police Sub-Station on Jomtien Beach the suspect denied all allegations of armed theft but was charged with theft and it is now up to the courts to decide if he is guilty or not.

English man shot dead in, what appears to be, a random armed robbery in Pong sub-district

PATTAYA: -- At 4.30 am on Wednesday, Police Sub-Lieutenant Choosak from Pattaya Police Station was called to the front of the Jeab Mini-mart in Pong sub-district after receiving information of a foreign man who had been fatally shot at the location. Police arrived and inspected the body of Mr. Steven Parkinson aged 47 from England. Witnesses mentioned that a total of four shots were heard but it appears that only two hit the intended target. Mr. Parkinson sustained two gun shot wounds to his face.

Details of the shooting were provided by Khun Sujira aged 32 who works at a bar on Walking Street. She claims that Mr. Parkinson took her from the bar and the pair left South Pattaya on his motorbike, a Blue Honda Phantom. They made their way to Soi Siam Country Club in Central Pattaya and drove along the road towards Pong sub-district, some 3kms from the Sukumvit Road. Four Thai men on two motorbikes approached the pair from behind and one of the passengers produced a gun and ordered Mr. Parkinson to stop. He decided not to comply with the shooters instructions and the shooter expelled four shots.

The bike fell to the ground and Khun Sujira realized that Mr. Parkinson was dead. The four men restrained Khun Sujira at this point and stole items of value from her and the dead man including a mobile phone, 1,500 Baht in cash and a necklace and ring. A total of 20,000 Baht’s worth of items were stolen from the woman along with other undisclosed items stolen from Mr. Parkinson as he lie dead on the street.

Police Lieutenant General Jongrak, the Region 2 Commander of Police was called in to oversee this serious case, and early on Wednesday Morning he spoke with a friend of the dead man Mr. David Cettevell and Mr. Parkinson’s girlfriend, Khun Siripon aged 24 who mentioned that she was currently living in a hotel and not with Mr. Parkinson because of problems in their relationship. No financial problems or anything else which could suggest a motive for the attack was revealed by the pair.

The Police General believes this case was a random act of armed theft and the crime was not pre-meditated but Police will investigate all possibilities as they urgently hunt for the gang of four men who committed this horrific crime. The British Embassy in Bangkok are also conducting their own independent investigation into this case and if we receive any updates to this story we will bring them to you here on Pattaya City News.

seems to be quite a few contradictions, like the amount of money stolen, from this report in The Nation

Briton, 47, shot dead in Pattaya

An Englishman was shot dead and robbed by four men on two motorcycles in Pattaya early yesterday morning.

Steven Parkinson, 47, was pronounced dead after being shot twice in the face at 3.20am while riding with a Thai woman around a reservoir at Bang Lamung.
Police said the woman, Sujittra Katekaew, 32, was in shock and that the four men had spared her after she begged them not to shoot.
The killers allegedly took Bt40,000 in cash from her purse, her valuables and an unknown amount of cash from Parkinson's trouser pockets before fleeing.
Sujittra said she could not identify the four men because they wore helmets or hats.
Bang Lamung police chief Colonel Nopphadol Sornsamran said the robbers could have been local teenagers, because they quickly fled the scene and avoided regular police patrols.

I agree - they instructed him to stop, and he didn't - perhaps he knew what was coming? Also, what hooker carries 40,000 baht in her purse?

As usual, there is probably more to this story than meets the eye...

New information uncovered in murder of English man in Pong Sub-district.
Some new information has come to light regarding yesterday’s story regarding the murder of Mr. Steven Parkinson from England which may suggest that this was far from a random shooting and may have been premeditated.
Pattaya City News monitors and sometimes contributes to the many Pattaya related chat forums on the internet and thanks to a board member at Thaivisa.com the case has now taken a new twist. He quoted a news article from the Pattaya Mail from September 2004 which involved the victim. He had apprehended one of two men who had stolen his gold necklace. Mr. Parkinson gave chase and detained one of the men in Soi Beokeow. The other man escaped. The arrested man was a 16 year old called Wallop and was charged and imprisoned for the crime.
We forwarded this information to Mr. Barry Kenyon who is the British Consulate here in Pattaya who in-turn informed Interpol and the British Police who are working closely with the Thai Police to solve this murder case. We understand that the Sister of the deceased is now in Pattaya and Mr. Kenyon is taking statements from Friends who are convinced that this was a pre-meditated murder disguised as a random robbery. As soon as we receive any further information on this story we will bring it to you.

Armed robbery and assault at the Flamingo Hotel in South Pattaya.
A dramatic armed robbery now which occurred at 6am on Thursday Morning at the Flamingo Hotel in Soi Day Night 2, South Pattaya. The night receptionist, Khun Amnat aged 24 was one hour away from coming off duty when two men entered the Hotel and asked for the room number of a Thai man who, records showed, did not stay at the hotel. The men then produced weapons, one was armed with a knife and the other had concealed a baseball bat behind his back. The two assailants ordered the receptionist to open a cash box which contained 2,654 Baht. They took the money, struck the victim on the back of the head with the baseball bat and threw him into a nearby toilet and locked him in from the outside. Eventually a fellow worker heard his screams and the Police were called. After only a short time, the two suspected thieves were caught by patrolling officers and taken back to the scene of the crime where they were positively identified by the victim. The two suspects are Khun Nopadon aged 25 and Khun Kajonsuk aged 30. Both confessed to the theft and even demonstrated to officers how they conducted the robbery and assault. Both men are unemployed and decided to target this hotel as they noticed that overnight, only one member of staff was present at reception. Both suspects are now behind bars awaiting their time in court on charges of theft and assault.

Shooting at Temple Fair. One man is injured.
A case of shooting now leaving one man injured. These pictures come from Banglamung Hospital where Police were sent to investigate this shooting which occurred just outside the Nong Yai Temple which was holding a fair at the time. The injured man, Khun Pishit aged 20 told us that he went to the fair with a friend and saw that his cousin was selling food so he decided to go and help him. His friend went around the fair himself and encountered a problem with a local gang. His friend, Khun Satit tracked down Khun Pishit and asked him for his help in clearing up the problem with the group. They met the gang outside of the temple and, without notice, one of the gang members produced a firearm and shot in the direction of the two men. Unfortunately for Khun Pishit, he was in the line of fire and sustained one gun shot wound to his lower back which luckily missed his spinal column. Police are now tracking down the gang and are confident of making a swift arrest in this case.

New Zealand man assaulted as gang of youths attempt to steal his motorbike.
Mr. Goran Jurec aged 40 from New Zealand made his way to Pattaya Police Station on Monday Night and informed officers that he had just been assaulted by a gang of young Thai men on the Pratamnak Mountain. They attempted to steal his motorbike without success. Mr. Jurec wearing a blood stained Polo-shirt, made a report to officers who immediately began a search for a gang of four young men who were known to be armed with small pieces of wood. After a search, the gang were located and arrested under the overpass leading to the Bali Hai Port at the south end of Pattaya Third Road. Three men were arrested, one man who is thought to be the main instigator managed to escape. The men aged between 14 and 18 were taken back to Pattaya Police Station where they confessed to the assault but denied prior knowledge of the attack on the foreigner. Despite these claims, Police believe they are part of a gang who target foreigners who drive rented motorbikes. The bikes are stolen by force and resold in Pattaya and surrounding districts. The gang members are now behind bars on charges of assault and theft and will now face a judge who will decide their fate.

Unexpected update on yesterdays New Zealand Bike Theft case.
An unexpected update now from a story we ran on yesterdays program regarding the assault on a New Zealand national in South Pattaya. Police arrested three men, who were later prepared for a transfer to the local Young Offenders Prison. However, as the transfer took place, the three men attempted to escape. All Police units were called in to search for the three men who spilt up making it harder to locate them. We can report though, that each young man was re-captured. The 14 year old escapee was located on Pattaya Beach at the intersection with Central Pattaya and the other two aged 17 and 18 were found hiding in a disused building also in Central Pattaya. Police tell us that handcuffs used for the three men were intended for adults and each of the three suspects were able to remove the cuffs. They were restrained again using smaller sized cuffs and will now face additional charges of attempting to escape from Police detention.

Woman murdered in Central Pattaya Hotel.
Police Major Chayaporn was called to the Love Inn Hotel in Soi Arunothai in Central Pattaya after hotel staff reported an apparent suicide in room number 201. Police Colonel Nopadon, the acting-Chief of Pattaya Police was called in to oversee this case and both officers inspected the body of Khun Samlan aged 46 who is married to an English Man. It soon became apparent that this was no suicide. Evidence of hand marks around her neck were seen and her wrist was cut. The body was discovered inside the bath and Police believe that whoever killed her had held her head under the water and then cut her wrist to make it seem like a suicide. This hotel specializes in short term room rentals and hotel staff mentioned that the woman came with a young man who appeared to have come from a bar. It appears the culprit stole money and other valuables belonging to the victim. CCTV pictures showed the suspect leaving the room first and the discovery was made when hotel cleaners entered the room after the allotted time limit for renting the room had expired. Police are confident of catching the suspected murderer after receiving clear images of him from the CCTV tapes.
