Phuket Tourism foked - Nok Air suspends Phuket flights

    Nok Air suspends Phuket flights

PHUKET: In further bad news for the island’s immediate tourism prospects, the Gazette has confirmed that low-cost carrier Nok Air has suspended its remaining flights to Phuket, most likely for the rest of the low season.

In an email reply received by the Gazette this morning, Nok Air’s Chief Executive Officer wrote, “Yes, we have suspended flights to Phuket for this month. We will resume [flying to] Phuket in the very near future after we have arranged our new TPI [timetable planning] for the coming high season.”

The high season in Phuket nominally kicks off on November 1, with the Phuket Carnival in Patong.

With rival low-cost carrier One-Two-Go grounded until at least October, all regularly-scheduled flights between Bangkok and Phuket currently fly out of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Both Nok Air and One-Tow-Go use domestic hub Don Meuang Airport as their base of operations.

Nok Air has been losing big, big, big money for sometime. It would not surprise me if the don't go under.

Nok Air used to fly Chiang Mai > Udon Thani too, but not any more. Wonder if they're going belly up.

Looks like Air Asia, Bangkok Airways and Thai have the monopoly now. It will be interesting to see what they all do now the prices of oil have come down.

The last I recall about Nok Air was that they have several leased aircraft which, due to a downturn in tourism, they could no longer afford to run. If the lessors are still demanding payments on planes Nok Air aren't flying then I would guess Nok must be finding it hard to keep going.

They had farang stewardesses and pilots.

At this rate your only option will be to book a tuktuk to Phuket.

Not going there on your visit are you Jizzy?

    You want to hear crazy?

Before the tsunami there were only two carriers that flew the highly lucrative Phuket - Singapore direct route; Thai and Silk Air.
After the tsunami, Thai stopped stating that there was no demand.
Four years later, Thai still haven't resumed the route.
Silk Air has two, sometimes three flights a day, all full.
Tiger Airways has two flights a day, all full.
Air Asia also has flights every day, all full.
The foreigners are cleaning up on that route.

Thai have always flown to Phuket and they still do. You may fly from Don Muang or Suwanabhum. Bangkok Airways also flies the route.

Yeah.....right. Real competition for the Singaporeans.
one and a half hour flight direct to Singapore from Phuket, or, one hour plus lay-over plus two hour flight for the same destination.
Thai used to fly direct to Singapore from Phuket for years and years, stopped after the tsunami and never resumed. Aren't Thai desperate for profits? This is a very profitable route.
