No progress in Hanna murder investigation

No progress in Hanna murder investigation

MAI KHAO: The body of Hanna Charlotta Backlund, 27, who was found murdered on Mai Khao Beach yesterday morning, has been flown to Bangkok for forensic tests, Col Sakchai Limcharoen, Superintendent of Tah Chat Chai Police Station, told the Gazette this afternoon.

“There is no news to report at this time, but police are working quickly to solve this case. We have questioned many people, but no-one has reported being a witness to the crime, including her girl friend,” he said.

Hanna Charlotta was staying at Mai Khao Beach Bungalow resort with Emma Storman, who found Hanna’s body about 300 meters from the resort.

Tah Chat Chai Police Deputy Superintendent Lt Col Payongsak Petchrod told the Gazette, “The place where the body was found is hard to see and very quiet. There is a mound there and behind that is thick with trees. There are no restaurants near there, and no people.”

Emma told police that she did not see anyone in the area around the time of the murder, Lt Col Payongsak said. “Emma left the resort to buy some water and she told Hanna that she will join her sunbathing later. About 30 minutes later, she returned to find Hanna dead,” he said.

“Hanna was very beautiful and she was sunbathing topless. Emma said that they normally sunbathed topless if there were no people around,” he added.

“There were many stab wounds on her neck, one on her back, one near her navel and both of her hands had been cut by something sharp. It’s possible those wounds came from her fighting her attacker,” Lt Col Payongsak said.

CSD joins manhunt for Swedish tourist killer in Phuke

CSD joins manhunt for Swedish tourist killer in Phuket

The bangkok-based Crime Suppression Division Sunday deployed its officers to join local police in Phuket to conduct a manhunt for the killer of a Swedish tourist.

Hanna Charlotta Backlund, 27, was found dead with multiple stab wounds on Mai Khao Beach in Phuket's Thalang district Saturday afternoon.

CSD Commander Pol Maj Gen Pongphat Chayaphan said he had deployed some officers to help local police to hunt for the killer.

Phongphat said the wounds appeared like being inflicted by a kind of knife of local fishermen so police would question local fishermen and workers at all construction sites near the beach.

WTF is going on. The UK has more than twice as many tourists as here but I don't think one has been murdered there for years. Of course, according to NR Thailand is far safer

Round up the Burmese again, it was probably one of them on a motor bike (another charge) that did it. Case solved

Well, it's an awful incident and a one that has become all to common here. Lets hope they actualy investigate it and bring the correct person to justice, and not just some random happless bugger of a building site or boat.

From what I have read online today if they do arrest someone Burmese from a boat or building site half the farang in Thailand will be screaming 'fix' and demand a Thai to be arrested instead.

As far as I know the beach is near a building site and not much else, there's a good chance that a group of pissed up labourers did commit this crime.

Thailand is officially the most dangerous destination for British holidaymakers. India and Australia are close behind.

Stands to reason it will be dangerous for all nationalities, not just Brits.

In the UK women tourists don't usually sunbathe topless & alone in secluded areas. Too bloody cold for one thing.

It's absolutely terrible that this happened & I too hope they find the killer soon (but I'm with Noodles that I hope it's the real killer & not some random fit-up to close the case quickly), however I wish people would not do things here that would be too dangerous even in their own country (sunbathe topless in a secluded area on my own? In any country? Not on your nelly!)

One article she is in a one-piece swimsuit, in another, she is topless. OK, maybe one-piece just means the bottom g-string? Anyway, must have been an immediate attack if she was killed within 30 or so minutes. RIP, young miss.

Killing backpackers was becoming a national sport over in Australia and if one looks at the figures its very foking scary.

Think I'd rather take my chances in Thailand any day, not to mention the random violence that is on the increase.

Police searching for killers of Swedish woman in Phuket

Police searching for killers of Swedish woman in Phuket

Phuket police are still working on the investigation and searching for murderers after a 27 year old Swedish tourist, originally named by police as Hanna Charlotta, was found murdered at Mai Khao Beach, at the northern end of Phuket on Saturday. The body, dressed in a one-piece swimsuit, was found with stab wounds on her throat, 700 meters from Mai Khao Beach Bungalows, where she was staying with her girl friend since March 6th. Her body was taken to Thalang Hospital for autopsy. Pol. Col. Sakchai Lim Charoen, Superintendent of Tah Chatchai Police Station, believed that the victim died while fighting against an attempted rape.
Yesterday the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Police region 8 Pol. Major General Thavat Bunfueng visited and called a meeting with Phuket police and ordered a speed up of the investigation and searching as the case severely damages the resort island's tourism image, while the Minister of Tourism & Sports flew down from Bangkok last night to follow up the case. The bad news has also drawn the attention of Swedish media.

Phuket has earned a realy bad reputation over the past year or 2 for violent crimes commited against foreigners, it would be realy interesting to see a list showing these events over the last 12 months and seeing which ones have been resolved and which have not.
