Police have arrested a man for assaulting an elderly tricycle driver in broad daylight. The incident, which was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, occurred on the main Thep Krasattri Road near Maesompong Market in Srisoonthorn, Thalang.
The Thalang Police told the Phuket Express this week that the suspect Mr. Visan, 45, was apprehended at the entrance of a housing estate in Srisoonthorn. Police tracked him down shortly after the attack.
Upon his arrest, police conducted an alcohol test, which revealed an intoxication level of 96 milligrams per cent—exceeding the legal limit. Additionally, a urine test conducted at Thalang Hospital confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in his system.
According to reports, the altercation stemmed from a road dispute between the suspect and the elderly tricycle driver. The situation escalated when Visan allegedly struck the victim’s head with a motorcycle helmet. As of now, police are still searching for the victim to obtain further statements.
Visan, who works as a jet ski rental operator, has been formally charged with the following offenses:
