On May 13th, 2025, at 5:00 PM, Chonburi Immigration Police, led by Pol. Col. Napasphong Khositsuriyamanee, launched a sting operation in Pattaya to crack down on a begging syndicate exploiting children and disabled individuals. The operation followed complaints from tourists and locals about groups damaging the city’s tourism image.
Undercover officers, disguised as tourists, targeted popular tourist hotspots where large crowds gather. They identified a gang of foreign beggars, including individuals carrying two to three children or displaying physical disabilities, soliciting money by evoking pity from passersby. The police swiftly moved in, apprehending the group and bringing them in for processing.
The suspects included five Cambodian women, two men, and eight young girls aged 3 to 10. Initial investigations revealed that most were Cambodian nationals who targeted high-traffic tourist areas, earning 300–500 baht (approximately $9–$15 USD) per day. The group reportedly rented accommodations in Si Racha, Chonburi, and traveled together by songthaew (shared taxis) to Pattaya. Some admitted to living in Thailand for over a decade, with children enrolled in local schools.
Police recorded the details of all individuals and transferred them to Pattaya City Police Station for legal proceedings. The group faces charges and will be deported to their home country.
Authorities added that such operations aim to protect Pattaya’s reputation as a premier tourist destination. Further investigations are underway to uncover any broader networks involved in the exploitation of vulnerable individuals for begging.
