The army has positioned more forces along the border in Tak’s Tha Song Yang district, following fighting in Myanmar near the frontier.
Reinforcements include personnel from the Ratchamanu Task Force and ranger units tasked with monitoring the situation. They are also armed with mortars and heavy machine guns, to provide security for Thai communities along the border.
The troops will be stationed there around the clock.
The deployment follows reports of intense clashes between warring factions in Myanmar, including the use of warplanes and bombing, in attempts to seize control of a military post near the Thai border.
According to the Thai army, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) has allied with the Karen National Defence Organisation (KNDO) and the Karen National Union (KNU) against Myanmar’s government forces.
