Anukool Pruksanusak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that Thailand was ranked 7th globally in the 2025 Global Happiness Index by IPSOS, a leading international research firm. The ranking was based on a survey conducted between December 20, 2024, and January 3, 2025, involving 23,765 participants under the age of 75 from 30 countries. The findings show that only 2% of Thai respondents reported being “not happy at all,” indicating that the vast majority of Thais still enjoy a good level of well-being.
Within Asia, Thailand ranked the 3rd happiest out of seven surveyed countries, following India and Indonesia. In Thailand, 18% of participants reported being very happy, 61% somewhat happy, 19% unhappy, and only 2% not happy at all. Malaysia shared a similar ranking with Thailand, while Singapore, Japan, and South Korea followed behind.
The survey identified three main factors contributing to happiness: spending time with family and children, feeling loved and accepted, and having control over one’s life. Conversely, financial stress, mental health challenges, and physical health issues were key reasons for lower happiness levels. Older adults aged 70 and above were the happiest demographic, while among Gen Z respondents, men reported higher happiness levels than women.
The government remains committed to improving the quality of life for all Thais by enhancing public health services, promoting income stability, and strengthening family bonds. It is also driving policies to support long-term well-being, particularly for working-age citizens and the elderly.
