A South Korean tourist was injured in a knife struggle during a heated altercation with a Thai woman near Pattaya’s Walking Street on Tuesday morning.

At around 9:00 AM on April 23rd, rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya were alerted to an assault incident near the entrance of Soi 15/1 Walking Street. Upon receiving the report, they coordinated with local police and dispatched a rescue team to the scene.

At the location, which is part of Pattaya’s walking street area, responders found Mr. Moqgyeom, a 32-year-old South Korean national, with a severe injury to his right hand. His finger had been slashed by a knife, resulting in heavy bleeding. The rescue team provided first aid at the scene before transporting him to the hospital. A kitchen knife, believed to be the weapon used, was found placed on a nearby food cart, with bloodstains visible on the ground.

According to Ms. Chopaka, 26, the incident began after the South Korean man took her sister out for drinks at a local entertainment venue in Pattaya. Later, they went to eat in an attempt to sober up. Her sister paid for the meal upfront, as the Korean man claimed he didn’t have cash and would reimburse her at his accommodation. However, once they arrived at his place near Walking Street, he allegedly refused to pay as agreed, leading to a heated argument.

Ms. Chopaka began recording the situation with her phone as the man allegedly verbally abused her sister and their friends and tried to prevent them from leaving. Sensing danger, she and her friends attempted to walk away. As they reached the entrance of the alley, the man approached and continued arguing. Out of fear, Ms. Chopaka grabbed a knife from a nearby pad thai vendor’s cart to defend herself. The Korean man allegedly tried to snatch the knife, resulting in his hand being cut.

A witness, Mr. Thaworn, 30, a pad thai vendor, confirmed that he was packing up for the day when the altercation occurred. He stated that the Thai woman grabbed the knife from the side of his cart for self-defense, and the Korean man reached out to grab it, getting injured in the process. Mr. Thaworn added that the Korean man then allegedly attempted to stab the woman, but he intervened in time to stop him.

Pattaya Police arrived shortly after and took Ms. Chopaka and the witness in for further questioning. Police plan to interview the South Korean man once he has recovered.
