Four para-military rangers were injured when a motorcycle sidecar, rigged with an explosive device, exploded near their lodgings in Ra-ngae district of Narathiwat province this morning.

Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that, at about 6.40am, suspects parked the sidecar close to the wall of Chai Rattanaram Temple, which is adjacent to the para-military ranger unit lodgings, and then left by car.

Shortly afterwards, the explosive device in the sidecar detonated. The force of the blast injured four rangers in their living quarters.

The scene of the explosion was cordoned off by police, while waiting for the arrival of an explosive ordnance disposal unit.
