While the upstairs was swaying a bit I noticed two things.

The dogs instinctively ran straight outside to safety without being told, and all the birds tweeting on the garden went competely silent for a few minutes.

There were two and they were both pretty big and both in Myanmar.

Lots of videos of hotel rooftop pools dumping water over the side; there may be workers caught/trapped in the Chatuchak building that fell but no solid reporting yet.

Of course some fucking Thai muppet started spreading the rumour that the government had announced another aftershock at 2:30.

I would like find this kind of wanker and give them a good fucking slap.

The 7.7-magnitude tremor hit northwest of the city of Sagaing on Friday afternoon at a shallow depth, the United States Geological Survey said. A 6.4-magnitude aftershock hit the same area minutes later.

An earthquake that size has probably killed 1,000s in Myanmar. I hope it's the school holidays there.

Video of one of the workers trapped in the wreckage of the collapsed building. He looks in a very bad way.

Myanmar will need international assistance. I expect the international earthquake search and rescue specialists are already preparing to go.

Thai PM declares state of emergency in Bangkok

Thai authorities have declared a state of emergency in Bangkok, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said on Friday after the city was hit by a major earthquake centred in Myanmar.

She called an emergency meeting to assess the impact of the quake.

Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention said the quake was felt in almost all regions of the country.

The link to the video of the injured trapped worker.

He seems unable to deal with the reality of life, death and all points inbetween.

    Poor thing.
