I had to drink my own urine when I was chained up in Thai prison cell for 10 days

A Brit holidaymaker spent 10 days chained up, drugged and beaten in a Thai police cell after being spiked by a psychoactive drug.

Lewis Green, 22, was arrested on January 24 - the day before he was due to fly home from a eight-week solo trip around the South Asian country - and suffered fractured ribs, a broken wrist and foot lacerations.

He was also forced to drink his own urine in his damp cell at the Hua Hin Police Station and was only released after paying a £7,000 'bribe'.

The builder, from Staffordshire, believes he may have been deliberately targeted by crooks and spiked with a powerful hallucinogenic drug known as Dimethyltryptamine or DMT in order to make him an easy target.

Lewis believes either his drink was spiked with the drug, it was injected into him or administered by a 'spiked vape'.

The effects so severely impacted Lewis's mental health that when he returned to the UK last month Lewis had to be temporarily 'sectioned' for his own safety.

After finally being discharged this week, nearly two months on from his arrest, he told MailOnline: 'It was terrible, my arms were chained up and I was handcuffed to the prison bars.

'You don't get fed any food or given any water, I had to start drinking water off the floor because they turned the tap on and flooded the cell and left the water in there for days.

'I was chained up so every time I needed to use the toilet I had to go on the floor then drink the water I'd peed in.

'One day six of them [officers] came in the cell and just started punching me, beating the s*** out of me. I just covered myself as best I could.

'I was just lucky I was able to pay my way out but there were a lot of British and American lads out there getting caught up in stuff like this.'

Lewis says he has limited memory of the incident that led to him first being arrested but insists he didn't knowingly take any drugs including cannabis which was decriminalised for medical use in 2022 but is now openly sold to tourists across Thailand.

Lewis says he was led away by two police officers after arguing with the owner of a cannabis dispensary in the coastal town of Hua Hin, around 125 miles south of Bangkok.

He believed he was being taken to the police station to pay a fine but was locked in a cell for four days, released, then locked up for a further six days after being accused of stealing a car.

He said: 'I really have no idea why I was locked up, I was chained up and nobody would give me any answers - every time anybody walked past I tried speaking to them but they just ignored me.

'I was lucky I was in a cell on my own as some cells had 10 people in them.

'I was definitely under the influence of this drug then, I don't know if they even injected me when I was in the cell because I was trying to fall asleep.

'When they let me out of jail the first time the car owner told me I could drive this car but then the police arrested me for stealing it and took me back. I'm struggling to remember because I was under the influence of this drug.

'Drugs are everywhere and I was offered cocaine and ketamine on the streets and you can smoke cannabis legally but I was on my own so the strongest thing I had was a few beers.'

Lewis was forced to pay £4,500 in fines, and £1,700 compensation to the car owner to drop the charges before he could be released on February 4.

When Lewis's parents learned their son was arrested, they organised Lewis's dad Peter Green, 51, flew out to Thailand to help return his son while mother Colleen Wilding, 51, contacted police and the British Embassy for help.

Colleen told MailOnline: 'This was a dream trip for Lewis, he's been on holiday in Europe before but is very independent and wanted to do this on his own.

'He initially booked onto a fishing trip but wanted to see more of the real Thailand and that's where it all went wrong.

'It was awful to go through that as a mum.

'We heard from him the night he was drugged, the last message we received before we knew he was in the police station was sent to his dad and said 'where does it begin and where does it end' which is never anything he would send before.

'We'd had eight weeks of perfectly normal messages about the holiday, we kept messaging asking if he's alright but we never heard anything.

'After 48 hours I had it in my head that he was gone and that message was goodbye.

'We only found out when he'd been in a cell for three days and that was only because somebody in Hua Hin noticed he was missing and contacted us.'

After arriving back in the UK, Lewis was rushed to St George's Hospital in Stafford where his injuries were discovered.

With no history of mental health problems, medics were concerned about changes in his behaviour and after a brain scan ruled out head injuries he was temporarily admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

Peter and Colleen have set up a GoFundMe page to help their son make ends meet while he recovers from his injuries - and to warn other young Brits to be cautious when visiting Thailand.

The Foreign Office warns male and female tourists are targeted and spiked with alcohol and drugs across Thailand although drinks are more commonly targeted.

Police and academics have warned about an increase in 'vape spiking' and a study last year by the University of Bath found 16% of disposable vapes confiscated from school children across England contain the synthetic drug Spice.

Sorry, I shouldn’t giggle. The poor guy must have had his first round of schizophrenia while on vaycay in Thailand.

Perhaps it's a scam. There's a Go Fund Me page.

Methinks he was probably off his head on some other drug he'd bought when he was arrested.

I knew it reminded me of something.

[After six months at sea, Blackadder, Percy and Baldrick prepare to drink their own urine]

Blackadder: Is Captain Rum joining us for this Bring-A-Sample party?

Percy: Oh no, he's been swigging his for ages. Says he likes it. Actually, come to think of it, he started before the water ran out.
