South Korea’s Air Force accidentally dropped eight bombs on a residential area in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, during a joint drill with the U.S., injuring 29 people, including four Thais.


The incident occurred on March 6th, 2025, during the Freedom Shield exercise, when two South Korean fighter jets misfired bombs designed for demolishing buildings and bridges. The explosions caused severe damage to homes and other structures, with debris scattering across the area.


According to the source, as of press time, among the injured were 15 civilians and 14 military personnel, including four Thai nationals. One Thai citizen sustained serious hand and leg injuries and is receiving treatment at Pocheon Uiryowon Hospital, awaiting surgery.

South Korean authorities have confirmed they will cover all medical expenses. The other three Thai nationals suffered minor injuries and have since returned to their accommodations.


In response, the South Korean Air Force issued a formal apology and promised compensation for the victims. Officials stated this was the first time civilians have been harmed in a South Korea-U.S. aerial drill since the Korean War armistice.


The Thai Embassy has visited the injured and will continue to monitor their recovery closely.
