British Tourist Knocked Unconscious by Security Guard on Pattaya Walking Street

A 41-year-old British tourist was punched unconscious by a security guard on Pattaya Walking Street according to a viral video (bottom of the article), but the exact circumstances leading to the incident are still vague as of press time.

On March 2nd at 11:50 PM, the Sawang Boriboon Foundation received a report about a foreign tourist being assaulted by a security guard outside of an unidentified nightclub on Walking Street. The tourist, identified only as Mr. Catixus, a 62-year-old British national, was found unconscious on the street. Emergency responders provided first aid before transporting him to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Witnesses, including nearby security guard Mr. Atthapol, 41, revealed that the tourist had approached the security guard in question (Not Mr. Atthapol, and allegedly provoked an argument on purpose about an unknown matter. After they both left the establishment, the guard was seen on CCTV walking away down Walking Street, only for the tourist to follow him in an alleged aggressive manner.

The guard then appears to punch the tourist in the face once, causing him to immediately collapse. After the incident, the guard reportedly fled the scene. Local police arrived shortly after.

Pattaya police are investigating the incident as of press time but did not release the name of the establishment where the incident reportedly originally took place nor the argument that led to the assault. They stated they needed time to interview everyone involved and review CCTV fully and would then provide further updates to the Thai media.

The exact condition of the injured British tourist was also not released by authorities.

In January, another Walking Street nightclub was raided by law enforcement after a tourist was assaulted by security following an argument over paying for a broken glass, as we reported here.

That particular incident was also followed by a viral video incident of a Thai patron at a Soi Lengkee bar allegedly being assaulted and seriously injured by multiple security guards, as we reported here.

This most recent incident comes only a few days after police held a major meeting with over a hundred bar and entertainment venue owners and managers in Pattaya, hosted at the Alcazar Cabaret, in which they specifically warned venues to never, ever attack a customer, even aggressive ones, and instead to call police immediately if a dispute was escalating and allow properly trained law enforcement to resolve any outstanding problems.

A video of the incident, taken by a different Thai media Facebook page, can be seen HERE, but we caution sensitive readers that the video may disturb them in advance. Viewer discretion is advised.

He also seems to have aged 21 years as a result.

Pattaya Security Guard Apologizes for Assaulting British Tourist on Walking Street, But States Tourist Kicked Him in the Groin First

A security guard at a Pattaya nightclub on Walking Street who assaulted a 63-year-old British tourist came out to publicly apologize. He reportedly admitted he lost control of himself but stayed that the intoxicated tourist provoked him and kicked him first in his groin after the guard rejected the tourist from entering his club due to being visibly too intoxicated.

On March 4th, Mr. Patcharapach Sritanyanon, the Banglamung District Chief, summoned Mr. Sarawut, 32, a security guard at the nightclub in question, and Ms. Wilasinee, 45, the manager, to provide clarification about the incident. Mr. Patcharapach reviewed CCTV footage which showed some of the moments leading up to the assault.

According to reports, Mr. Sarawut apologized to the public, the authorities, and the victim for his actions that tarnished Pattaya’s tourism image. He explained that prior to the incident, the tourist was heavily intoxicated and could barely walk

Mr. Sarawut claimed he tried to prevent the tourist from entering the nightclub as he was allegedly too drunk to enter, but the tourist reportedly kicked him in the groin, causing him to lose control and the incident to escalate on the street as seen in video footage. He admitted his wrongdoing and later met with police officers at the Pattaya Police Station, where both parties apologized to one another. The British tourist, who was not seriously injured and has recovered, reportedly admitted he was drunk and struck first and declined to press charges.

Ms. Wilasinee, the manager, stated that Mr. Sarawut was generally calm but lost control after being provoked by the tourist. The shop has temporarily suspended Mr. Sarawut and plans to hold further meetings to improve staff behavior.

Police withheld the name of the venue where the altercation took place, but stressed that the tourist in question had been denied entry due to his apparent intoxication which led to the incident.

If a nearly geriatric Brit with an alcohol problem tries punching an early 30s security guard in Pattaya, he probably has a fit of form for creating trouble back home. Good on him for declining to press charges.

"If you press charges then we'll have to put you in the locker while we're conducting the investigation"
