Thailand Faces Temperature Drops, Heavy Rain, and Rough Seas This Weekend

The Meteorological Department issued a weather forecast for January 17th–22nd, warning of significant weather changes. A new cold front from China will bring cooler temperatures to northern Thailand, while intensified monsoon winds are set to cause heavy rainfall and hazardous seas in the south.

From January 17th–18th, a high-pressure system will lower temperatures by 2–5°C in the north. The northeast monsoon will strengthen, bringing heavy to very heavy rain to southern provinces. The Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will see rough seas, with waves up to 3 meters, exceeding this height during storms.

Between January 19th–22nd, the high-pressure system will weaken, raising temperatures by 2–5°C in the north, with persistent morning fog. Cooler weather will continue, and rain in the south will decrease, though isolated thunderstorms remain possible.

Authorities advise residents in northern Thailand to stay warm and beware of dry, windy conditions that may increase fire risks.

Southern residents should take precautions against heavy rain, flash floods, and coastal waves. Small boats are urged to avoid venturing out during storms, while northern motorists are advised to drive carefully in foggy conditions.

Thank goodness for government advice. I had planned to spend the weekend shivering, naked out in the garden overnight.
