Search for blind gaur in Thap Lan National Park

Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate a blind gaur from Thap Lan National Park that has wandered outside its natural habitat into the village area of Kaeng Din So, Nadi District, Prachinburi Province, 7 January. There are concerns that the gaur might pose a threat to local residents. Despite searches, the gaur has yet to be found, but it was reported to have collided with houses, causing damage.

The incident began when a wild gaur, with an eye injury, was spotted leaving its natural forest area and entering the local community, raising concerns about its potential to harm people.

On Wednesday at around 4:40 PM, local authorities were alerted by Ms. Sanit Pradit, a homeowner in the area, that the gaur had run into her house, causing damage. In response, the head of Thap Lan National Park, Mr. Prawatsat Chanthap, has deployed several teams to monitor and protect the area, including personnel from the Kaeng Din So wild elephant patrol unit, the Thap Lan National Park management district 1 (Nadi), district 2 (Huay Kham Phu), and the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Wildlife Research Station.

Authorities are focused on preventing local residents from disturbing the gaur, which is believed to be in deeper forested areas. Plans are in place to isolate the gaur and guide it back to its original habitat..
