Kongkiat Temtomnan, director of the 2nd Conservation Area Management Office, based in Si Racha, said that he received a report from his team about the presence of a large herd of elephants in the forest and one calf was found with leg in a trap.
A team of veterinarians and forest officials found the injured animal lying under its mother’s belly, accompanied by two more elephants.
The officials then chased the herd to a spot about 100 metres away, but the mother elephant and its calf did not move. An official used tranquiliser darts to sedate the two animals and removed the trap, while vets cleaned and checked the wound on the baby elephant and administered antibiotics.
