A new speed limit of 50kph has come into force on 10 roads close to the Grand Palace. A 60kph limit is now in force on most other roads.

The Metropolitan Police explained that the new traffic regulation is necessary to reduce road accidents in densely populated areas and areas around government offices.

The ten roads where the 50kph speed limit is imposed are Ratchadamnoen Nai, Na Phra That, Phra Chan, Na Phra Larn, Sanam Chai, Kanlayana Maitri, Thai Wang, Maharaj, Rajini and Setthakarn.

There remain 13 roads which remain exempt from both 50kph and 60kph speed limits. They are Vibhavadi Rangsit, Bang Na-Trat, Srinagarind, Phahonyothin, Ram-Inthra, Ratchapruek, Borommaratchachonnani, Kalpapruek, Romklao, Suwinthawong, Chaeng Wattana, Rama 3 and Srinagarind-Romklao.
