People in Yala and Pattani provinces are advised that floodwater levels will rise by today, as more water is being discharged through the Bang Lang Dam in Bannang Sata district of Yala today and tomorrow.
Management of the dam announced today that the increased release from the reservoir is necessary to protect the dam’s superstructure, because an additional 400 million cubic metres of water has entered the reservoir in the past seven days.
13 million cubic metres will be discharged today and 16 million cubic metres tomorrow.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, 11 people have died in flooding across the southern provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Satun.
74 medical facilities have been closed, 12 remain fully operational and eight are partially operational.
196 temporary shelters have been set up in Yala, Narathiwat, Songkhla and Pattani, which can accommodate more than 11,000 flood victims.
632 emergency medical teams have been formed, to provide health services and treatment to more than 10,000 people, including house visits.
Common conditions being found among flood victims are skin and respiratory diseases and Athlete’s foot.
