An intoxicated foreign tourist was detained after allegedly assaulting the husband of a restaurant owner in Pattaya. The incident occurred at the Fierce Food and Drink shop in Soi Phratamnak 4 in Pattaya.
At 3:06 AM on November 18th, 2024, Ms. Grongkan Ketwetchasuriya, 45, the owner of the restaurant, filed a complaint with Pol. Lt. Sakyachai Chaidet, Deputy Chief of Investigation at Pattaya City Police Station. She requested assistance in controlling the unidentified intoxicated foreigner who had allegedly assaulted her husband.
Upon receiving the report, police officers on patrol were dispatched to the scene. They found the foreign tourist, whose real name and nationality were unknown, heavily intoxicated and unable to speak clearly. He had a head wound and was taken to Pattaya City Police Station, where rescue workers provided first aid. The tourist did not have any identification documents and did not initially give his name or nationality. He was Caucasian and approximately 30-35 years old, and spoke English natively, however.
Ms. Grongkan explained that the foreigner had attempted to use the restaurant’s services after it had closed. When she informed him that the shop was closed, he became unhappy. She was alone, so she called her husband, who is also a foreigner, for help. Despite efforts from the neighboring cannabis shop owner to drive him away, the intoxicated tourist remained stubborn. He then allegedly hit Ms. Grongkan’s husband on the head with a bottle. Her husband, who was holding a stick, retaliated by hitting the tourist back, injuring the tourist as well.
Following the incident, Ms. Grongkan immediately called the police to control the situation. She provided CCTV footage and video clips as evidence which appeared to show that the tourist was the aggressive party. The intoxicated foreigner was detained in a jail cell at Pattaya City Police Station to calm down as of press time and he will be questioned once he sobers up to ensure fairness for both parties.
