A few strands of hair, belonging to a murder suspect, found in the fingers of the victim have given the police in Rayong province a vital piece of evidence in the investigation of the robbery and murder of a public prosecutor’s mother-in-law.

Pol Col Apichanan Wattanawarangkun, superintendent of Rayong police, said that the hair caught in the victim’s fingers suggest that she might have fought her attacker.

The suspect, 56-year-old “Kamonwan”, was scheduled to be taken to the crime scene, in an oil palm plantation in Pa Yub Nai sub-district of Wang Chan district today, for a re-enactment of the crime. She would then be taken to the Rayong Provincial Court to seek approval for her further detention.

Police claim that Kamonwan has confessed to killing 67-year-old “Wanna” and robbing her of personal belongings, including gold chains, diamond rings and cash. She claimed that she acted alone, say the police.

According to the suspect’s statement, last Friday she phoned the victim to ask her to see her brother in Wang Chan district and then drove to pick her up.

Upon arriving at the crime scene, Kamonwan claimed she asked the victim to get out of the car for a talk, but Wanna had refused, claiming that it was almost dark and she wanted to return home.

The suspect claimed that she then forced her victim to leave the car and hit her with a steel club, before removing her personal belongings and fleeing the scene.

She also claimed that she sold the spoils to a gold shop in Ban Bueng district of Chon Buri for about 80,000 baht, which was spent on settling her gambling debts.
