Bangkok conducts ‘One Night Count’ of homeless population in Phra Nakhon District

On Friday night, October 25, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) conducted an extensive “One Night Count” survey to assess the homeless population in Phra Nakhon district. Led by the BMA’s Social Development Department, with support from the City Law Enforcement Department and the Phra Nakhon District Office, around 50 social workers and community development officers, alongside 100 law enforcement officials, conducted the count from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon and Deputy Permanent Secretary Saenyakorn Ounmeesri joined senior representatives from the Social Development Department and Phra Nakhon District Office in the field during the operation.

The count recorded a total of 108 homeless individuals, with 83 men and 25 women identified within Phra Nakhon. This data will contribute to a broader census of homeless individuals across Bangkok to better tailor city services and resources.

As part of the survey, BMA officials conducted individual interviews to understand each person’s unique challenges and offered on-the-spot assistance. For those lacking an ID card, officials advised on accessing mobile ID issuance services, available at Phra Pinklao Bridge on the last Friday of each month. Health check-ups and washing facilities are also available daily at the site. Employment seekers were connected with potential employers to support job placement.
