Khao Kheow open zoo in Chon Buri province has decided to ban visitors from carrying slingshots, after a Chinese tourist was caught in the act of using one.
The image of a Chinese woman using a slingshot, as two of her fellow tourists looked on, was posted on the webpage of “Kha Moo and the Gang”, which reported that zoo officials had seen the image and were in the process of checking at what the woman was aiming, because there are not usually many animals in that area.
The zoo’s chief, Narongwit Chodchoi, told Thai PBS Online today that he has asked for the image of the incident to be used as evidence in a complaint to be filed with the local police, adding that he will ask the tour company to tell its customers not to carry slingshots into the zoo.Photo captured from the CCTV footage at the rented house.
He said that tourists might not know all the rules, but their tour guides should warn their customers about what is not permitted in the zoo.
Narongwit also said he will consult with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation about what charges could be brought against the tourist in question, adding that there are wild monkeys in the area, but no caged animals.
Disclosing that slingshots are not sold in the zoo, Narongwi said the tourist must have brought one in and that the zoo will add a regulation banning slingshots on the premises.
Khao Kheow open zoo is currently popular, due to the presence of “Moo Deng”, a pigmy hippo calf, which is attracting many more visitors each day, especially at the weekends.
