Five paramilitary rangers and three police officers sustained minor injuries when roadside improvised explosive devices (IED) were detonated in Su-ngai Padi district of Narathiwat province on Friday.
One explosion occurred at about 6am this morning, on a road in Rikor sub-district, damaging two utility poles. The incident prompted a large security force, including a sniffer dog, forensic science officers and an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team, to investigate the scene.
While they were combing the area for more IEDs, another explosion was reported in another village in the same sub-district. Five paramilitary rangers were injured when their pickup truck was struck by a roadside IED. All were rushed to the district hospital when reinforcements arrived.
A third explosion was reported at about 10am. An IED had been placed at the foot of a large tree, about 500m from the Border Patrol Police barracks in Su-ngai Padi sub-district. Three police officers in a pickup truck were slightly injured.
