Colonel shoots neighbor over pet dispute, then takes his own life

PATHUM THANI, Thailand – A long-standing conflict between neighbors over dogs and cats took a tragic turn on the morning of September 9 when a retired army colonel shot and killed a female neighbor before turning the gun on himself.

At approximately 7:50 a.m., Khlong Luang Police Station received a report of a shooting in the Chat Luang 14 Village, Khlong Sam Subdistrict. Upon arrival, police found two deceased individuals and one person injured.

The shooter, Col. Jaruchart Jarupan, 64, was found dead in front of his house. He had shot himself with a 9mm Sig Sauer P365 pistol. His neighbor, Mrs. Saowakul Sasadoh, 53, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds, including to her hand, right elbow, left cheek, and abdomen. Her son, Krittin Natwil, 30, was injured after being shot in the left hand and was taken to a nearby hospital.

According to Mrs. Anothai Jarupan, 63, wife of the shooter, the conflict with their neighbors had been ongoing for over six months, stemming from arguments about pets. The dispute escalated this morning when her husband, talking loudly on the phone, was misunderstood by the neighbors, who began yelling insults. After a heated exchange, Col. Jaruchart retrieved a gun and shot Mrs. Saowakul, before turning the weapon on himself.

Krittin, the victim’s son, confirmed that the conflict arose from a long-standing issue involving their neighbor’s cats entering their property, which led to repeated arguments.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and the bodies have been sent for autopsies at Thammasat University Hospital. Family members have been notified and will proceed with funeral arrangements. (TNA)

The neighbour's cat came into my garden one time. The dogs treed it and I had to ask my neighbour over to take the cat down. That was it, the cat has never returned.

Not a day passes in this silly, preposterous little medieval country without yet another vivid illustration of just how utterly incapable these people are of negotiating conflict except through lethal violence.

Shooting neighbours because a cat intrudes on their property? For fuck’s sake, that’s what cats do, they roam.

    Fucking idiot.

I hate cats. Owners get them and just let them roam and they fight on walls at night. My dogs keep them out but it is an annoyance when they see one in the yard and go crazy. They have caught and killed 2. I just shovel what's left of it into a bag and toss in the weekly trash for pick up.

Seriously doubt the owner even knew it was gone.

I can understand the guys angst albeit he went extreme. Back living in Califormai we had the same problem. I started trapping them with a Raccoon trap and then taking them up into the mountains and letting them go never to be seen again. Probably "Relocated" 30+. Most probably became Coyote food.

cats are awful creatures. they are slothful, selfish, lazy, demanding and uncommunicative and unlike our canine friends, give nothing back in return.

owners, mostly lonely women and spoilt children are horribly manipulated by them.

A neighbour has 2 cats that often come onto the property for a stroll or a lay down (dogs are not allowed off their leash, so none around). Have never once seen a rodent (nor a snake) anywhere in the vicinity. Absolutely fine with me.

They are Tax. That said though, if someone enjoys a cat, great. We all have our own preferences but keep the fur ball in their house.

Nonsense. Burmese cats make great companions who will talk and play on demand. They love to snuggle up and make great hunters. My sister's chocolate seal point Burmese is a joy who in his life has brought any number of mice, birds (well, bits of their intestines,, feathers and beaks ) and occasional twigs in barren periods back to her porch as a token of his gratitude to her. They do like to talk and if you give them a bollocking theyÂ’ll sit there and whine back at you insisting on having the last word. Very characterful and have the saving grace of going next door to crap in the neighbour's garden flower border. But theyÂ’re quite fastidious though and will make a hole into which theyÂ’ll defecate and will then cover it up with loose dirt.

Oh look, it's TD's very own JD Vance.

Or perhaps just a very pitiful attempt at a troll.

Pretty poor accuracy from a colonel!

Surely a professional would put 2 in the chest and one in the head?

Maybe he was drunk, mentally impaired, torturing the victims or probably all three.

That is the technique if being attacked/charged at. It doesn't sound like cat woman was coming at him claws first.
