Bangkok cracks down on motorcycles violating sidewalk rules, fines exceed 1.5 million

Bangkok authorities have intensified their crackdown on motorcycles illegally parking or riding on sidewalks. From November 1, 2023, to August 28, 2024, the city’s district officers have taken action against violators, towing motorcycles to district offices where fines are imposed. A total of 2,812 offenders were caught, with 405 receiving warnings and 2,408 fined, amounting to a total of 1,581,650 baht in penalties.

In addition to targeting parked motorcycles, authorities have also set up eight checkpoints across 26 districts to catch motorcycles riding on sidewalks. From July to August 28, 2024, 219 violators were identified, with 193 fined, 25 warned, and four motorcycles impounded, resulting in an additional 69,940 baht in fines.

To enhance enforcement, Bangkok has implemented AI-powered cameras to detect motorcycles on sidewalks. These cameras have been installed in 38 out of the 50 district offices, with the system currently undergoing testing.

Amazing what they can do nowadays, innit.

Combine artificial intelligence with natural stupidity.
