Tree Collapse on Zipline Bridge in Chiang Mai Claims One Chinese Tourists Life, Injur

At 2:50 PM on August 1st, 2024, the Erawan Emergency Response Center in Chiang Mai received a report of a fallen tree injuring two Chinese tourists at a zipline site in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai.

Upon arrival, rescuers quickly transported the victims to Doi Saket Hospital, while alerting relevant agencies for further investigation.
According to eyewitnesses, it was reported that a Chinese couple were returning from the final zipline platform to the office area when a tree suddenly collapsed onto the rope bridge they were crossing.

The victims were, publicly identified only as Mrs. Jing (44) and Mr. Lui (46), both Chinese nationals. The tree struck the rope bridge, causing the couple to plummet 15 meters to the ground.

Emergency services rushed them to Doi Saket Hospital, where tragically, Jing was pronounced dead upon arrival. Lui suffered severe injuries, including broken arm and leg bones, and was transferred to Chiang Mai Ram Hospital for further treatment.

Initial investigations revealed no signs of wind or rain at the time of the incident. Local authorities are continuing their inquiries to determine the exact cause of the tree’s collapse.

I'm guessing that was one of those "thank you for the nice cake and here's your safety inspection certificate" jobs.

Actually it does not sound like that at all. It was a nearby tree that brought down the line.

Seems like really bad luck to me.

While being out in the jungle during heavy rains one can hear big trees falling quite often.

Well a proper safety inspection would have identified those trees, but this is Thailand where electrocution, falling or driving into unmarked road construction trenches or drainage pits, being run over on pedestrian crossings or drowning on sinking ferries is all part of daily life here.

Stick to dentistry and TEFLing tax. Sometimes you cannot predict which trees are going to fall without notice.

Prediction doesnt come into it you dolt.

A 100ft tall tree will describle an easily calculated arc should it fall, if the zipline passes within that arc, then it must be deemed to be unsafe. A competent safety inspection would identify any trees that could endanger the zipline when disturbed

If, as Misskit says, trees are falling regularly, then it would appear that safety ptotocols have not been enforced.

only those that endanger the zipline, or preferably, as done in developed countries, route the zipline to avoid potentially dangerous encounters.

Only a clueless tourist or fucking idiot would embark on a hazardous activity in Thailand.

Walking the fucking broken pavements is bad enough.

Thai fuck up everything in the end, or the beginning.

I always get a laugh out of SA and Tax. Everything that happens here is due to Thai incompetence.

Sometimes shit just happens and people die so STFU will ya.

From the report, a tree fell and unfortunately hit the bridge these 2 were on and that was that.

Should we order a ground saturation study to determine root content and depth and set up a tree triangulation to determine if a tree is not growing at a 90 degree to ground?

Let's build a 'Tax-safe' zip-line through the forest to admire the arboreal life in the jungle. Oh, we'll have to cut down all these trees because they might fall over, onto our zip-line. There, that's better....Oh hang on! Where have all the trees gone?

Tax, you really are a silly old codger.

Typical laissez faire attitude from seppo Thaiphile boonie fuckers.

Look these aren’t proper upstanding deciduous farang trees, you twat, they’re devious, unreliable arboreally egregious Thai trees and therefore inherently dangerous. Get a grip.

I'm surprised you're missing the point too.

Trees don't fall without a little help unless they're either dead and rotting, damaged, or the ground has become unsafe.

This is why we have safety inspections in areas of risk.

I expect more from you than Willy-level idiocy, Troy.

if it was your wife injured or killed due to non existent safety standards, poor construction, or a drunk driver you as an american would waste no time before banging on the door of a lawyers office.

yes, accidents happen, but usually due to the negligence of the victim.
trees should not falling on zip lines killing the riders, the zip line was routed poorly.

It's almost like nothing shitty or bad ever happens in the UK? No one in Sunderland complaining about trees being in the wrong place near a zip line and strangely enough nobody started rioting and torching cars , police stations , a bit of looting etc. ffs tax give your head a shake
He promised to headbutt me, if he ever saw me. Charming.

I guess that my solution would be that he 'never saw me'.

BWAHAHAHAHA. All I can say is Geeeeezuuus Fkn Coooooooorist.

OK so lets say I was up fishing at a lake. A tree fell. I was in its path. I died. Lets blame the Thai people for that. I mean FFS...Why didn't they have posted warnings that a tree might fall on any given day. Tax and SA are just miserable shitbags looking to blame everyone for anything that happens. I mean come on Tax, you don't live here yet you continue to come back??? why??. SA is understandable, he is an old coffin dodger living in a shit condo in Wongamat and has no options but uses his Wingman as the excuse to stay. God forbid he might stumble and fall down the stairs. Somebody didn't make the stairs correctly.

Anyway, carry on. I think I heard a tree fall. Hopefully nobody died, somebody made it happen.
