Weren't they just walking and the accident didn't happen when they were actually on the zipline? Act of god. If anyone's got stuck in a Facebook video hole then they'll know that it happens all over the world.

If Thailand took up UK Health and Safety checks then what's next, not being able to pay for things to be completed quicker? The world's gone mad!

And there are OSHA laws about tree safety in the US, same as the UK.

Perhaps the difference is that in both of those, there would be severe consequences for sloppiness and corner-cutting?
    Er Yes...duh.

You don't think people die in the US and UK attempting extreme sports? Sure there are generally more stringent controls but at a significant cost passed onto the consumer which is why people do these things in foreign countries.

It's all about risk. I have done some crazy shit in foreign countries and all the while I knew that the risk was much higher.

Would I ever bungee jump off a bridge here...nope. But some will and some will die. I used to sit in my condo in Jomtien while I worked and I would see hundreds of those Para sailing boats dragging people behind them and many were near misses. Then of course you have those 1 man motorized flying deals I would see go by and laugh. People go on holiday and take big risks for Facebook/Instagram pics to show their friends.

This thread has been most entertaining. Tax and seekingass are once again proving to be a couple of sideshow carnival freaks. A couple of vaudeville sideshow acts without a doubt.

As for the trees, UK HSE standards include trees.

Don't try and tell me they even considered this when hanging a bridge through that forest.

And that tree could have been hanging half out of the ground before it fell.

Somechai isn't looking, and any "investigation" they do will gloss over it and say "shit happens".
Well luckily the HSE Laws from places like The UK, USA and Australia are not relevant here in Thailand.

And that tree might have been half out of the ground or there could have been a lot of rain in the previous days, softening the ground, or it could have been GOD having one of his F@&k you moments and just messing with us.

Part of the reason i like Thailand is the "Buddha will take care" attitude and this is, to Me anyway, far preferable to living in an over regulated nanny country like Australia where you are not allowed to have fun "Because its dangerous".

At the end of the day, you pay your money and take the ride, Death is just an added option.

    I think you'll find it's not optional.

    So that didn't really work.

They were leaving on an exit bridge. The Thai reports say the tree landed on the bridge and actually catapulted them further into the air.

I can't talk for Chiang Mai but in Bangkok those things are all grouped together. Someone not seeking it can go about their lives without seeing it.

So if anything they should have been charged more for the experience.

    Act of god.

Yes, i am that the sort of idiot that can make my own choices in life.
It may be risky but if i want to do it and i am willing to pay the price then i should be allowed to.

What's next , banning Rugby because there is the chance of a scrum collapsing and i get hurt ?

who are you to tell me or anyone else how to live our lives ?

just because you are scared, why should we be?
