Two Myanmar men were arrested after they were found illegally working at a salon on Pha Ngan Island in Surat Thani.

The Koh Pha Ngan Police told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they inspected a luxury salon near a market in the Koh Pha Ngan sub-district following complaints from concerned citizens over foreigners doing jobs that are for Thai nationals only. Police arrested two Myanmar men who were identified only as Mr. Zu, 31, and Mr. Nay, 28.

Police also arrested a Thai woman, identified only as Mrs. Gingdow, 52, who presented herself as the salon’s owner. She admitted to police that she rented the place and operated as a salon for four months. She also admitted to hiring both Myanmar men to work at the salon, despite being aware that the occupation was for Thais only.

The three suspects were taken to the Koh Pha Ngan Police Station.

Mr. Zu and Mr. Nay are facing charges of working without legal permission. The Phuket Express notes that barbers and salon workers are a protected Thai occupation and foreigners cannot work in this field or obtain work permits to do so.

Mrs. Gingdow is facing charges of being an employer who hired foreigners who do not have legal work permits.
