Thread: Swedish Man Arrested at Phuket Airport for 113 Days of Overstay

A Swedish man was arrested at the Phuket International Airport for 113 days of overstay.


Phuket Immigration told the Phuket Express that on Wednesday (May 29th) at 2:00 P.M. they arrested a 41 year-old Swedish man at the international terminal in the airport. He was found to have overstayed for 113 days. The Swedish man was taken to the Sakoo Police Station to face overstay charges.

The Phuket Express noted that the Phuket Immigration Office did not release the Swedish man’s name. The Swedish man has not released any statement as of press time.

He was most likely there to get on a plane.

Whether or not he was aware of his overstay, we don't know.

There's always been a de facto rule that if you can make it to the airport with a valid passport and ticket plus the fine, you will be stamped out, flagged as an overstayer and given the appropriate ban if required.

Whatever circumstances here that caused the change of policy will be of keen interest to some I fancy.

Added: He looks surprisingly chipper about the whole thing and no-one is pointing at him.

I seem to recall that's how somtam slap left when he decided to go..just payed the fine at the airport. But in his defence he lived in issan somewhere and was on the piss with por so maybe he couldn't recollect a year or 2?

What happens if he's skint and can't afford the 20,000 Baht fine? Asking for a friend.

the thais wont pay. he stays incarcerated until he pays. maybe the swedish embassy will loan him the money.

That's what I heard.

Often the culprit will have avoided asking perhaps friends or parents because of the humiliation involved.

A few days in chokey means they'll forget all that shit in a heartbeat.
