The body of a Thai man was found in a pond in Sattahip district, Chonburi, on May 29th.
The Sattahip police were notified of a deceased person’s body found in a pond in the Saemsan area of Sattahip district around noon. Upon receiving the report, the police rushed to the scene along with rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanatham Sathan Foundation.
At the scene, authorities discovered the body of Mr. Pongthep Thongho, a 48-year-old Thai man. He was found lying face down in the pond, wearing a purple polo shirt and black shorts. Police said there were no signs of physical assault on the body. The body was transported to Sattahip Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Mr. Narisphong Naksophon, 37, the deceased’s nephew and the one who discovered the body, was present at the scene. He expressed his sorrow over the loss.
According to Mr. Narisphong, the deceased was his uncle and suffered from mental illness. Every day, Mr. Pongthep would assist his parents in selling congee at a market in the area. However, on May 27th, 2024, around 9:00 PM, he left his shop on a pink bicycle and never came back.
Mr. Narisphong reviewed CCTV footage around the area to track his uncle. The footage lost track of him after he turned towards Naim Sai Beach in the Saemsan area on the night of May 27th. Mr. Narisphong’s family then searched around the area until they found the body floating in the pond. They believed that Mr. Pongthep’s mental illness may have caused him to wander into the pond and drown.
