Fire Guts Garbage Factory on Samui Island

More than 50 fire engines rushed to a garbage factory on Samui Island to put out a massive fire that caused significant concern to local residents yesterday.

Fire fighters from the Samui Municipality were notified of the fire on Tuesday night (May 28th) at a garbage factory owned by the Samui Municipality in the Maret sub-district. They rushed to the scene with more than 50 fire engines from local authorities and private sectors on the island. Fire had engulfed more than 100,000 tons of garbage at the factory.

The Samui District Chief Mr. Kampanart Klinsaowakon told the Phuket Express that the blaze was finally brought under control in about an hour. The fire area is about three kilometers from a local residential community which also caused villagers significant concern.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Surat Thani Forensic Police as of press time and any updates will be provided by The Phuket Express.
