Wheelchair-bound Woman in Pattaya Falls Victim to Heartless Thief

A disabled woman in Pattaya fell victim to a heartless thief who stole her electric handcycle on December 31st, 2023.

Ms. Alisa Umsin, a 20-year-old Thai woman with impaired legs, reported the theft to Pattaya police after discovering her electric handcycle, a hybrid of a bicycle and a wheelchair designed for people with lower body mobility limitations, went missing near the Taksin Maharaj shrine, located close to Soi 6. The estimated value of the stolen equipment was 28,000 baht, a significant sum for Ms. Alisa who relies on it for mobility.

According to the victim, she parked the handcycle near the shrine while setting up a water-selling booth for the New Year’s countdown festival. Upon returning from her sales, she found the handcycle gone, forcing her to manually push her wheelchair home for several kilometers before reporting the theft to the Pattaya Police Station on January 1st, 2024.

Ms. Alisa revealed to The Pattaya News that she is having great difficulties moving around, as the handcycle was like her legs. Despite the presence of several surveillance cameras in the area, the perpetrator showed no qualms about committing the crime, she added.

According to Pattaya police, investigators had been deployed to the scene to collect CCTV footage. The investigation is continuing. The Pattaya Police Chief himself has taken a personal interest in the case, saying it was abhorrent to take a disabled person’s mobility device, and vowed to catch the criminal.

I can't find the link at the moment, but the culprit has been nabbed. He claimed "it looked like it had been abandoned" or some such shit.

Given that's she's paralyzed, I'd prefer to call you a witless twat.

It sounds like it was something that attached to her wheelchair.

Remarkable that we have posters so miserable that they would slag off some poor paralyzed woman who still makes the effort to go out and earn some money.

How the hell do you know ,100%, that she's genuinely disabled and not using the wheelchair to scam visitors to Pattaya?

And I'd bet you she didn't/couldn't either. Fit or disabled. She's fit and healthy enough to set up a booth selling water.

And why is it that you think a woman described in the press as paralyzed, who is in a wheelchair and has a separate unit to drive it, is "using the wheelchair to scam visitors to Pattaya".

    I know it's a shithole, but still:

I never said she was using the wheelchair to scam people. I'm just saying basically that it happens. And she can't be that disabled as she has a stall set up selling water at the Taksin Maharaj shrine. She was also describe as 'disabled' not 'paralyzed'.

Being registered disabled myself I'm well aware of what disabled people are capable of doing or not wanting to do. The woman has a very expensive machine to get about on and I'm sure the Thai DSS didn't pay for it. Therefore using her disability to get what she wants.

One would guess from her holding up the police report that she's paralyzed from the waist down.

She is described in many reports as "paralyzed".

It's a shame that you're so fucking cynical that you'd clutch at any straw not to believe this story so you can focus your anger on the victim and on the perpetrator.

In the fucking head by the sound of it.

Some Thais do fake disabilities in order to elicit sympathy and cash from others.

a while back in Bangkok there was a beggar with no arms sitting on the pavement, he was wearing a very loose fitting shirt.

there was a begging bowl in front of him with some coins in, me being a very charitable type of fellow put a 20b note in his bowl and walked on. After a few seconds for some reason I turned back to look at him and 2 arms had appeared from beneath his shirt and he was hurriedly removing the 20B note and putting it into a purse he kept in his trouser pocket.

I was tempted to go back and ask for my money back but thought better of it and just considered it a fair enough fee for some sidewalk entertainment.

as far as the paralyzed bloater is concerned, on reflection my comment could be considered a little insensitive. i thought she still had use of her legs and the electric thing was just to help her move her immense bulk around, in much the same way as obese brits, not paralyzed, but just too lazy to walk use mobility scooters to get around. here's one trying (and failing to reach) the donuts.

Yes, but they don't splash it all over the press and to the police, numbnuts.

But yes, I went to Universal Studios and there were loads of these fat fucks riding around on mobility scooters.

I think they do it to get free front of line.
