Foreign Tourist Found Staying in a Tent on Patong Beach

Police inspected after a foreign tourist was found staying in a tent on Patong Beach.

The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified from concerned nearby residents that a foreign tourist was staying in a tent on the beach.

They went to the beach to find the tent and the unidentified foreign tourist was found inside. He was informed that tents are not allowed to be placed on the beach. He was asked to remove the tent from the beach.

The Phuket Express noted that police did not reveal any details about the foreign tourist, including if his visa status was checked or if he would be charged for anything in relation to the incident.

Or if he smelled like the place seals go to die in winter.

Apparently there's some music festival on and he wasn't the only one they moved on.

Of course the Thai's won't know festivals in Europe are littered with tents.

They were probably more interested in why he didn't file a TM30.

It's my opinion that this will most likely have more of a bad influence on Thai tourism than a good one.
Let's say you are traveling the world and in Bangkok, or Hanoi or somewhere where flights to Phuket are cheap.
And there's a music festival going on with some world renowned DJ's performing.
YOu say: "Why not" go and enjoy the fun.
Music festivals around the world have people sleeping in tents.
I've personally taken my family camping on the beaches around Nai Yang and Mai Khao.
But now, if this reaches world fame, you'll have 2nd thoughts on going to Thailand to see a music festival.
They should've left well enough alone.

I don't go to them either, but, when I was a "Lad" I imagine I'd be going to the festival.
The way I went to 10 band music festivals back in my teens and early 20's.
Yeah, we even slept in tents. Good fun.
I am in my 70's now and realize the music has changed but, I don't like seeing authorities trying to put it down.
Just makes me remember the stern look on the cops faces as we were entering the festivals back in day

We’re not talking about music festivals in the West, this is a third world country with all that that entails. Dossing on a fucking public beach in a tourist resort is bound to provoke eviction.

    Indeed, an oxymoron.
