Thai police find lavish illegal casino covering two floors of hotel

Thai police find lavish illegal casino covering two floors of hotel-c1_2694706_231129130048_790-750x500-jpg

Thai police on Wednesday arrested 49 people, including 26 Chinese nationals, after uncovering a lavish illegal casino operating across two floors of a hotel in Nonthaburi province, northwest of Bangkok.
According to a report by The Bangkok Post, the casino was operating on the eighth and ninth floors of the IWISH hotel, which had been leased with access only possible via keycard. The property was raided by immigration police with the assistance of local police, where six baccarat tables, six slot machines, casino chips and around THB 3.5 million (US$100,500) in cash were seized.
Those arrested include 26 Chinese gamblers and 23 Thai workers.
The report also claims that the local police chief said the hotel was inspected a month ago and no casino found.
National police chief Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol has reportedly ordered his deputy to “investigate the case thoroughly” in order to find the real owner of the casino, as well as to take action against any police found to have aided in the operation of the casino.
The latest discovery of an illegal casino comes as Thailand continues moves to develop the nation’s first legal casinos.
As reported by IAG, Thailand’s House of Representatives recently established a new 60-member committee to study the feasibility of establishing a legal casino industry. A previous house committee’s report was approved by the House of Representatives in January, which recommended the development of legalized casinos within broader entertainment complexes in up to five locations nationwide, with Bangkok and Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) – which includes the likes of Pattaya and Rayong – named as the most suitable locations.
It also called for casino areas to comprise no more than 5% of the total IR floor space, with the remainder to incorporate attractions such as five-star hotels, shopping malls, beauty and spa parlours, amusement parks, zoos, and indoor and outdoor sports stadiums.

Amazing that. It was only inspected a month ago by local police and no casino was found.

    So………

Either this slick, sophisticated operation replete with soft furnishings and matching decor was planned and executed over two floors all within the last four weeks ……

    Or……..

Surely not, no. I refuse to believe it. Not the RTP, no, it couldn’t be. They wouldn’t do such a thing, would they?

...or it's just a couple of hotel conference rooms with some bespoke furniture brought in from outside. Wouldn't take a week.

The bit they chose not to purloin from the Post report was:

A Thai operator leased the two floors from the hotel and key cards were needed to gain access.
    slightly more informative than:

which had been leased with access only possible via keycard

Did the access to the 8th and 9th floor via special key card tip them of that something shonky was going on perhaps.? I'm starting to agree with sausages re his position on the somchais. I do believe this kind of horseshit is perpetuated by those in a uniform the the average thai wishes the farang no evil. Maybe sausages will even argue against my point of view, he loves a good argument. Fook me tax might even turn up.

That will be a small fraction of what is being rolled. The Chinese operators keep most of their money in China. The junket operators there find the punters and agree a credit limit, secured by cash or assets in China, then they escort the punters to the casino; typically taking care of accommodation, F&B and other incidental expenses. The punters might need some spare change for hookers or they too might be included in the deal. There will be a bookkeeper in the junket team who will track how many chips are issued and cashed in.
This model means the punters don't have to carry cash, so they don't face the problem of the dumb Aussie on the Pattaya bus or the problem of embarrassment at Customs. More importantly for the operators, it keeps all their money in Yuan in China, so there are no exchange losses and they don't end up with a wodge of cash stuck in Thailand with all the associated risks.
That there is any cash at all suggests either that there are some walk-in customers or that punters who reach the end of their credit limit can buy in at the tables.

Thai Police Capture Owner of Luxury Gambling Den in Nonthaburi and 49 Other Individuals

On November 30th, 2023, Nonthaburi reporters updated the case process on a luxury gambling den at a hotel in Ngamwongwan, Nonthaburi. Rattanathibet police officers captured 49 individuals both gamblers and employees.

Rattanathibet police interrogated the suspects and filed a lawsuit against them. Consequently, the Nonthaburi provincial court ordered a fine against Chinese gamblers and Thai card dealers from 4,000 baht to 8,000 baht according to the offenses.

Furthermore, the police officers captured the owner of the gambling den who was publicly identified only as Mr. Qi as he reportedly proclaimed the ownership of the establishment.

The police then escorted Mr. Qi to the Nonthaburi provincial court and pressed charges of possessing firearms and ammunition without permission and organizing gambling activities without permission.

According to a report by Nonthaburi reporters, the Nonthaburi provincial court did not grant bail in court as Qi had no permanent settlement and had penalties of imprisonment for three years or more.

Sounds like he's a villain and a jailbird.
