Mentally Ill Man Assaulted by Teenagers in Chonburi

A mentally ill man was beaten by two teenagers in front of the Mahachon Market in Banglamung district, Chonburi. The incident occurred at around 02:10 AM today, November 20th.

The victim, identified by Pattaya police as Mr. Jitphong M, 38, whose surname was withheld due to his medical condition, was found with a fractured head and bleeding from various parts of his body. He appeared to be a mental patient, according to rescue workers. Mr. Jitphong was transported to Banglamung Hospital for medical treatment.

According to Jitphong, he was sitting and eating bread in front of the market when a group of three teenagers approached him. The unidentified teenagers asked him why he was looking at them and then proceeded to attack Mr. Jitphong with a stick, the victim said.

An eyewitness, who preferred to remain confidential, corroborated Mr. Jitphong’s account of the incident. They reported seeing three teenagers arriving at the scene on a motorbike and two of them approaching Mr. Jitphong and verbally confronting him before physically assaulting him. They then sped away on their waiting vehicle.

Pattaya police are currently investigating the incident and plan to review CCTV footage in the vicinity to identify the perpetrators. They will also be pursuing legal action against the teenagers.

    Very sad... Nasty little fukers.

There's a lot of mental illness in Thailand, so the horrible little scroates should know better. Like most countries, although Thailand seems to have more than any other country I've visited, a lot of the homeless/folk who roam the streets seem to have mental health conditions - maybe the government/school system could educate the nasty little so and sos across the nation, and maybe even do some community reach out work; build a better understanding for the youngsters and develop some social support for the needy.

(On another note: I nearly did a "I hope Mr Sausage is ok" one-liner, but thought it inappropriate in a newsthread, and it's a serious article that should be tackled maturely.)
    Cycling should be banned!!!

    He'll doubtless be along imminently.

And may make you wish you'd taken that route.

^^ Wow, Betty, you’ve not been to the USA? I posit there are more mentally ill people on the streets there.

    Yeah, I'm sure you're right - it's a global problem.

I've not been to the US (just working in Vegas and LA) for 25 years. The problem seems to have gotten much worse since then; I've seen the LA, SF, etc, tent cities. In the US, maybe a lot of the homeless folk have drug related problems rather than non-drug related mental health issues? Just a guess.

The government/schooling system/other (such as billionaires and corporations) could be doing a lot more, but we're increasingly a greed focused selfish culture - this also seems global.

Mental illness and drug addiction occur together. Hard to say what comes first.

In Thailand I see mentally ill people being taken care of by the locals. That is, if they are not causing problems. Where these people go when the police must get involved, I have no idea.

In Thailand, probably different in Urban (and heavy tourist places) and rural locations?

My experience was from Bangkok, and it wasn't good on the streets for folks with mental health issues. Yes, some support from locals, but also a lot of abuse. The local temples obviously do add a social net of some type, but some temples seem to have limitations on how much support they can/will give out to certain folks in their community (?) - again, just my limited experience. The temples are a good social safety net though - imagine how little support some folks would have without them.

Pure mental health issues, not drug or alcohol dependent, seem far higher to me in Thailand than elsewhere; just anecdotal. It would be interesting to see statistics. In Korea, mental health issues are still taboo to the older generation, so a lot is hidden; it's getting better with good doctors and empathy from the younger generations.

Thai society is violent, crude and vindictive.

The smile is just fucking wind.

Most Somchais don’t mature until they hit 50+, and until then many have the emotional development of a 13 year old, but most remain halfwitted.

At 02:00am? Teenagers shouldn’t have been out on a motorbike anyway.

Hope your wounds heal quickly sausages.
