Lopburi Gears Up for Monkey Buffet Festival

Lopburi province is gearing up for its annual Monkey Buffet Festival, with a vibrant rehearsal recently held at the Phra Prang Sam Yot’s rear courtyard. The rehearsal, organized by Yongyut Kijwatthananusorn, president of the Lopburi Tourism Association, featured a spread of fruits, cookies, fruit juices, jelly, and Thai desserts for the long-tailed macaques.

The festival, which is a distinctive Chinese-style banquet for monkeys, is scheduled for the last Sunday of November and will consist of four rounds of feasts at 10 am, noon, 2 pm, and 4 pm. The event takes place in the front courtyard of Phra Prang Sam Yot and other areas populated by monkeys. The festival is set to be grander than previous years, thanks to a larger budget.

Yongyut has extended an invitation to both Thai and foreign tourists, with the aim of making the festival a major attraction. Recognized as a creative tourism initiative, the festival is set to boost the local economy and rejuvenate Lopburi’s tourism sector.

I wonder if this will trigger another mass fight between the temple and city monkey troops?

These monkeys behave worse than TD posters...

What if you don't like monkey? Is there a vegan option?

Nasty buggers we have them near us, they will scratch your car up if you stop near them clambering all over it and can be very aggressive. Mrs got stuck in a Big C mini with one outside jumping on customers bags leaving, tearing them apart to get at food, even the staff would not go out and get it away. The pit bulls of the monkey world!

Their entire culture is predicated on profit taking.

Ghastly society, and one scarcely better than the simians overrunning the city.
