Police are looking into the death of a Taiwanese man discovered bound and gagged in a trashed hotel room in the Bang Na neighborhood of Bangkok on Thursday morning. The 48-year-old man was discovered dead in a room on the sixth floor of Bangkok’s Niran Grand Hotel.


Police discovered the body face-down beside a bed. The wrists and legs were tied behind the back with belts and cords. The victims head was tightly wrapped in a clear plastic sheet, with plastic tape across the nose and neck area. Investigators suspect the Taiwanese man was tortured.


The room had been plundered, and there had been a fight. There were two safes and bloodstains on one of them as well as a bucket. Personal belongings of the victim, including his computer and mobile phone, were not discovered.

The man checked in alone at 12.43pm on Tuesday, according to hotel personnel.


Forensic investigators assumed the individual died at least eight hours before his body was discovered. Hotel maids reported seeing him with his laptop about noon on Wednesday.


According to detectives, the man arrived in the country about 1 a.m. on Tuesday and checked into the hotel that afternoon. On Tuesday night, two Thai women met him at the hotel.


They also discovered that three males, one of whom was Asian, were perhaps linked with the victim, who had previously served time in Taiwan for fraud and human trafficking.

Police have arrested a Myanmar man and a Cameroonian on suspicion that they were involved in the murder of a Taiwanese man, whose body was found in a hotel room on Udomsuk Road in the Phra Khanong district of Bangkok yesterday.


The two suspects have been identified as Myanmar national Zwe Lin Pyae and John Agbor from Cameroon.


Pol Lt-Gen Thiti Saengsawang, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said today that police are looking for a third suspect, a Caucasian, who is still at large.


The 48-year-old Taiwanese victim was found with his hands and legs tied with Scotch tape and ropes, his mouth was covered with tape and there was a wound over his right eyebrow, believed to have been caused by a strike with a hard object. Two blood-stained towels were found on the floor of the hotel room.


Police said the victim checked into the hotel on Tuesday. A friend called the hotel on Thursday, asking hotel staff to check the victim’s room, saying he could not contact him. Staff opened the room with a spare key and found the customer was dead. They then contacted the police.


Police checked the CCTV system and saw two men walking from a room on the fifth floor to the victim’s room on the sixthr. They managed to track down the first suspect, the Myanmar man, at an apartment in the Makkasan area.


The suspect claimed that he was hired by a Thai woman follow the Taiwanese man, adding that he later had an appointment with the woman and two other men at a coffee shop in the Thon Buri area, during which the woman told them that the Taiwanese man was rich and she wanted him robbed.


The second suspect, the Cameroonian, was arrested by the police later, but has denied any involvement.

Taiwanese man with criminal history murdered in Thailand

A Taiwanese man was discovered murdered in his hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday (Nov. 16) morning.


The 47-year-old surnamed Chu (朱) was discovered at 10:30 a.m. in a ransacked room of the Niran Grand Hotel in Bangkok’s Bang Na District, reported Bangkok Post. Two foreigners of unnamed nationality were interrogated in connection to Chu’s murder on Thursday, but no charges were filed.


Chu was reportedly found bound and gagged, with signs that he was tortured prior to his death. He is also reported to have been charged in Taiwan for crimes related to fraud and human trafficking.

Taiwanese media reports have identified Chu as the chairman of an organization called the Taiwan Leadership in Action Institute, per EBC News. Chu made headlines in 2022 for allegedly engaging in schemes to defraud people who believed they were donating to an organization, promoted as a university alumni association, involved in providing anti-epidemic safety materials during the pandemic, reported SETN.


Chu reportedly arrived in Thailand on Tuesday morning and checked into the hotel room in the early afternoon. Two Thai women visited Chu’s room that evening.


On Wednesday (Nov. 16), Chu was spotted outside the room while using his laptop at the hotel around noon. Later, on Wednesday night, security cameras recorded several persons of interest, an Asian man near Chu's hotel room door, and two black men who took the elevator to the sixth floor around the same time.


After examination by investigators, it is believed Chu died around eight hours before the discovery of his body by hotel staff, reported Thaiger. This would place his death around 1:30 or 2 a.m. on Thursday.


Chu reportedly told an employee at the hotel’s front desk that he was in Thailand for business, and that he was involved in renovating real estate properties. The employee told officers investigating the case that Chu expressed dissatisfaction with an unnamed business partner, claiming that he had been deceived.


Thai authorities also revealed that in addition to his criminal history, Chu made four previous trips to Thailand, all of short duration. Police are investigating Chu’s previous activity in the country and are looking for several persons of interest, per reports.

on most the crime reports that misskit posts, the police manage to apprehend a suspect within a few hours of the crime being discovered, and at a location far removed from the crime scene. in this case the hotel isnin bang na, and a suspect was arrested in makkasan, on the other side of town.

yesterday a low level chonburi motorcycle scrote was apprehended later the same day over 50 miles away.

shoplifters, petty thieves, pickpockets, the low level crims that the police hardly bother with in many countries are regularly caught here.

the thai police i see around seem to be sloppily inefficient and with little motivation, yet time and time again they manage to "get their man" if it is indeed "their man", within a few hours. is it due to informants, cctv, good detective work, or just luck?

Everyone in Thailand, indigenous or visitor, is on a photographic database somewhere which in turn is linked to an address. Immigration, tabien baan, ID card, passport, you name it.

You are spot on sausages. For a change. But it is no different in the West. We are a very monitored society these days. Probably more so in the UK but Oz is catching up. Take a drive down the freeway in Perth there are cameras everywhere. Some for speed. Some are simply number plate recognition to see if you've paid your tax or not. Or is the car stolen. I haven't seen the amount of cameras on roads in thailand but it's how they roll hear for sure. And no need for all the finger pointing photo ops. Could it be, that the cases with "low level crims", not being caught, isn't publicised much ?

Yes, success rate regarding low lewel crimes isn't impressive here

a lot of the cctv images are poor definition low resolution grainy shots, and many people these days are masked, or in the case of crims, helmeted.

cctv may help to identify, but how on earth does a cctv image of a man in bang na, manage to locate and aid the apprehension of that man later in the day in an apartment in makkasan.

Police are to seek a warrant for the arrest of a Thai woman suspected of involvement in the murder of a Taiwanese man at a hotel in Bangkok’s Phra Khanong district.


Based on the account of a Myanmar national, one of the two suspects already in police custody, the woman, whose identity was not disclosed, hired the Myanmar man to follow the victim. Police suspect that the woman could be the contact point for the three perpetrators and the mastermind.


The Myanmar man, identified as Zwe Lin Pyae, told the police that he traced the Taiwanese man to his hotel, where he had checked in on Tuesday. The Myanmar national and his Cameroonian accomplice, John Agbor, then checked into the same hotel, but on a different floor.


The suspect allegedly said he and a European, who is still at large, forced their way into the Taiwanese man’s room, tied him up and ransacked the room looking for cash and other valuables, while the Cameroonian was outside the room acting as a lookout. He also claimed that the victim was still alive when they left his room.


Police said the decedent, identified as Chu Chiang Zhen, had visited Thailand several times, but didn’t know whether he had any business in the country.


The victim’s body was found in his room on Thursday, when his friend asked hotel staff to find out whether he was still in the hotel, after he lost contact with him.

I take a screen grab of a CCTV recording of you and then scan it into the immigration photo database and wait for a match which is inevitable given your pointy head and from your many leave to remain applications I can retrieve your address. Using a smartphone I can download the screen grab in situ and send to my office to await the outcome which can be notified to me in Bangna from where I can drive onto Makkasan and nick the perp.
