Teacher killed, student injured in shooting in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei area

A school teacher was killed and a vocational student seriously injured in a shooting near a school in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district on Saturday morning.

Khlong Toei police say they suspect that the shooting stemmed from a rivalry between students of two vocational colleges.

Quoting motorcycle taxi drivers, police said that a group of about five vocational students were gathered on the pavement in front of a bank, near a girl’s school on Sunthorn Kosa Road, when the pillion passenger from a motorcycle approached the students and opened fire with a handgun. The bullets hit one of the students and a bystander, later identified as a school teacher.

The gunman, thought to be a student at a rival college, walked back to his accomplice on the bike, but was told to go back shoot the already wounded student again. The attackers then fled on the motorcycle, heading towards Rama 4 Road.

The two wounded people were rushed to Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, where the teacher was pronounced dead.

Yet another marvellous vignette illuminating the reckless delinquency that permeates every facet of Thai society.

Still, it is surprising given the wretched country is run by a succession of army backed dictatorships. You’d think they’d be able to sort out a few schools and a bunch of juvenile chickenheads, not least because it has an army of 450,000 and a police force of 230,000.

    They really are quite useless.

Psychopath. Let's hope they do one of those manhunts where they kill the gunmen and accomplices.

Anutin floats the reviving of civics classes in schools

Interior Ministry will hold discussions with Education Ministry about the possibility of reintroducing civics classes to the school curricula, to instil an awareness of unity, duty, ethics and brotherhood among Thai students, in the hope of reducing violent inter-school rivalries.

Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul floated the idea following the shooting near the Scared Heart Convent School in Khlong Toei last Saturday, in which a school teacher was killed and one vocational student was seriously injured. The shooting is thought to have been the result of rivalry between two vocational colleges in Bangkok.

Anutin said that civics courses were taught in the past, but were scrapped in recent years for no apparent reason, adding that he sees the need for the courses to be revived to teach the ethics and duties of Thai citizens.

He said that he has instructed the Department of Provincial Administration to coordinate with the Royal Thai Police to get tough with the carrying of guns in public by private individuals, saying that no permits will be issued for civilians to carry arms in public.

Regarding school rivalry, which is reported to be the cause of student violence, he said that school administrators have been told to make sure that their students do not carry weapons into schools and to educate them about the consequences of student violence.

Meanwhile, police in charge of investigating the Khlong Toei shooting said that they know the college where the gunman has been studying and they are trying to track down the shooter and his accomplice.

Three classmates of the injured student have been questioned by the police and all of them claim that they have no conflict with the students of any school, because they are in their first year.

Klong Toey shooters 'fled city on stolen motorbikes'
    15 NOV 2023

Police investigating the shooting of a student and teacher in Bangkok's Klong Toey believe the two suspected gunmen have fled Bangkok.

Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) commissioner Pol Lt Gen Thiti Saengsawang told the media on Tuesday that investigators have been questioning anyone linked with the incident near Sacred Heart Convent School, where two gunmen opened fire at a group of university students on Saturday.

Pol Maj Gen Theeradet Thammasuthee, commander of the MPB's Investigation Division, said he had received information that the two men, riding motorbikes whose licence plates had been reported stolen, changed clothes and left the capital in the aftermath of the incident. "They also had the motorbikes painted a new colour," he said.

Monthon Paksuwan, secretary-general of the Office of Private Education Commission (Opec), said Education Minister Pol Gen Permpoon Chidchob had instructed Opec and relevant agencies to disburse 507,000 baht in compensation to the female teacher's family.

Pathumthani Vocational College is usually the HQ and weapon supply store for armed incursions and missions against enemy combatants.

They're gonna be pissed that another institution is stealing their thunder.

I think you will find its Pratum Wan Institute of Technology rather than Prathum Thani, which is not located in Bangkok but rather in the province that bears its name.

I think you'll find that if you read my post again, you may just be able to understand it. Possibly, due to age though, possibly not.

15 People Arrested in Connection to Khlong Toei Shooting Incident; Police Pursue Justice for Victims

On December 18th, 2023, Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin Poolsawat, the deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, publicly revealed the result of raid operations in 14 locations regarding the Khlong Toei shooting incident on November 11th. There were 15 individuals arrested.

According to a report by the police, all the captured suspects were linked to the shooting incident as they reportedly shared a residence in Wong Sawang 19, Bangkok. They allegedly procured illegal firearms and escape vehicles and concealed and destroyed evidence regarding the case, said Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin.

On the incident day, on November 11th, 2023, the group of suspects allegedly conspired to commit the crimes based on a hazing type of activity.

The police rigorously investigated the case to find the culprit who allegedly shot the innocent teacher passerby, the accomplice who rode a motorbike, and involved individuals, asserted Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin.

The 15 suspects were issued arrest warrants after the investigation, one of them was publicly identified only as Mr. Noppawut who allegedly conspired to plan the shooting and escape plans, and reportedly was arrested with one unregistered firearm and a box of 45 mm bullets, said Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin.

Initially, all the suspects reportedly denied the allegations and were escorted to Thung Maha Mek inquiry officers for further legal processing.

At 9:30 AM, on December 19th, Thai metropolitan police captured the alleged shooter who was publicly identified only as Mr. Anavin, and an accomplice who was publicly identified only as Mr. Kriti in Chiang Mai while camping at Doi Pui-Suthep.

Anavin and Kriti were reportedly escorted to the Metropolitan Investigation Division, Bangkok, for legal proceedings.

Police chief to root out “criminal organisation” behind violent student feuds

National police chief, Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, has vowed root out what he called the “criminal organisation”, which is allegedly instigating hatred and violence between rival students at the Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok, Uthenthawai campus.

He said the organization was behind the plotting of the fatal shooting of Thanasorn Hongsawat in the Khlong Toei area on November 11.

Speaking at a press conference today, after questioning Anawin, the prime suspect in the shooting, Pol Gen Torsak said that members of the organisation and former students of a vocational college near the Uthenthawai campus can no longer be treated as students, but as criminals, because of their activities, such as stockpiling of arms, their acquisition of vehicles used in committing crimes and their access to lawyers to defend them in court.

He claimed that Anawin, who was arrested along with another suspect at the Doi Pui mountainous retreat in Chiang Mai yesterday, admitted to shooting Thanasorn. One of the stray bullets also killed a teacher from the Sacred Heart Convent School.

Anawin, according to the police chief, admitted that he stole a motorcycle license plate in the Din Daeng area on November 10th and attached to his motorbike, which he and another suspect used to patrol the streets in the Rom Klao area, looking for Uthenthawai students. They didn’t find any.

The following day, both of them patrolled the streets again, this time in the Khlong Toei area. They found a group of Uthenthawai students, at whom they opened fire, fatally injuring Thanasorn and killing the school teacher.

The police chief said that the leaders of the criminal organisation had created a virtual world and sowed the seeds of hatred among their recruits, who are mostly weak-minded. Police have rounded up 24 suspects are in police custody for alleged association with the organisation, said Pol Gen Torsak.

He admitted, however, that destroying the organisation might not solve the problem entirely, as he suggested that the college should be relocated out of Bangkok.
