Koh Phangan : Male foreigner's body parts at rubbish dump after Full Moon party

Body parts found on Koh Phangan
    PUBLISHED : 4 AUG 2023

SURAT THANI: Body parts which police believe belonged to a foreigner were found on a rubbish dump on Koh Phangan, the southern island famous for its full moon parties.

Police said the body parts were found at a dump in Moo 4 of Koh Phangan municipality district by trash collectors at 12.30pm. The body parts, which consisted of a sawed-off pelvis and intestines, were found inside a fertiliser sack. Due to the size of the pelvis, authorities believe the victim was a foreign male.

Investigators said the victim died at least 24 hours before the body parts were found.

May be Colombian according to Daily News today, sources said officers identified the suspect as a Spanish man, or is that the other way around.

More garbage bags found - including the victim's clothing and an upper and lower leg minus the foot.
This could be another 13-piece cut-up - as was the German in Pattaya recently.

    Too early for this?

Spaniard denies involvement in grisly Koh Phangan killing
Search indicates dismemberment took place in hotel room where suspect was staying
    UPDATED : 4 AUG 2023 AT 20:54

A Spanish man in police custody has denied any involvement in the disappearance of his Colombian friend, following the gruesome discovery of human body parts at a landfill on Koh Phangan, the southern island popular for its Full Moon parties. Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 29, was taken to the Koh Phangan police station on Friday for questioning in connection with the disappearance of Edwin Arrieta Arteaga 44, a Colombian national. Mr Sancho had gone to the Koh Phangan police station on Thursday night to report that Mr Arrieta was missing. This came after news spread that some human body parts had been found.

According to the investigation, the two men knew each other from earlier encounters and had arranged to travel to Koh Phangan and meet up there. Mr Arrieta had booked a room at hotel on the island from July 31 to Aug 3. Mr Sancho arrived at the hotel on July 31 and checked into the room before Mr Arrieta arrived.

Mr Sancho said he went to pick up his friend at a pier on Koh Phangan at around 3pm on Wednesday. They then went to a restaurant and later visited Rin beach near the hotel where they were staying. Mr Sancho police that Mr Arrieta disappeared after midnight on Wednesday. He said he did not know where the Colombian man went.

The initial investigation showed that Mr Sancho was staying in the hotel room that Mr Arrieta booked. He had also booked a room at another hotel near Salad beach for Tuesday and Wednesday, said Pol Lt Col Surapong. He took the Colombian man to a restaurant near the other hotel he had booked. After Wednesday night, nobody saw Mr Arrieta.

The investigation found that the Spanish man had bought a knife, rubber gloves, a kitchen sponge, a cleaning pad, a bottle of cleaning agent and garbage bags at a convenience store on Tuesday evening.

Police inspected his room and found that a refrigerator, a bathroom and a kitchen sink had been washed. Bloodstains, tissue, fat and hair were found in the room’s drain. Samples were taken for forensic testing, according to Pol Lt Gen Surapong.

Is Simon43 in Koh Pangan or Koh Samui? I hope he's staying away from the jellyfish!

I thought he returned to Luang Prabang, having aborted his plan to resume teaching in Myanmar.

Oh OK. Simon has moved a lot the past years/ months and I haven't kept up!

Just curious - are UK pensions indexed(?) in Laos? I think that's one of the considerations (for UK ppl) when choosing a country to retire to, right? (of course when one has a partner/ spouse, it's different)

I know they're indexed in PH but not in TH.

From Daily News states the two had been in a relationship for a year, the Colombian is an anaesthesiologist and the Spaniard works as a chef.
Police 'suspect jealousy' in their expert opinion.
Anyhow, according to them, he's confessed, but the bulk of the body parts haven't been located yet.

And face it, you never had it down as "love triangle", did you, and you should be the expert in this type of relationship.

Spaniard Confesses to Murdering Colombian Lover in Koh Phangan

According to authorities, a Spanish man acknowledged to killing his Colombian physician lover and dismembering his body before putting parts of it in a landfill on Koh Phangan and his skull and other pieces in the water.

Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 29, was taken to the Koh Phangan police station on Friday for questioning in connection with the disappearance of Colombian national Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, 44. According to a person familiar with the inquiry, he originally denied any involvement but finally admitted to the act following extensive questioning by police.

The suspect is the son of Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre, a Spanish actor, and Silvia Bronchalo, an actress. He is a well-known chef in his home country and has his own YouTube channel. In Monteria, Colombia, the victim ran a thriving plastic surgery clinic.

Police discovered fresh evidence thought to be human body parts after inspecting a hotel room believed to be the location of the killing, said Pol Lt Gen Surapong Thanomjit, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 8, on Saturday.

Forensic officers gathered hair, fat, and tissue samples from the room’s drain and transported them to Yala for testing. According to Pol Lt Gen Surapong, the results will be available on Sunday.

According to the commander, a police assessment of security video from numerous locations on the island famous for its Full Moon celebrations revealed that Mr Sancho was involved in the crime.

Before the human body pieces were discovered, the Spanish man was the last person seen with the victim. Officers were compiling evidence to get a court warrant for Mr Sancho’s arrest, according to Pol Lt Gen Surapong.

On Thursday night, Mr Sancho went to the Koh Phangan police station to report Mr Arrieta missing. This followed the discovery of human body parts.

Trash collectors uncovered body parts, including a sawed-off pelvis and intestines weighing approximately five kilogrammes, inside a fertiliser sack at a waste dump in Koh Phangan’s Moo 4 on Thursday.

More body pieces were discovered in a black plastic bag at the same spot on Friday. Two legs, a black T-shirt, a pair of shorts, and a pair of red boxer shorts were all in the bag.

According to Pol Lt Gen Surapong, Arrieta’s relatives told detectives that he had been in a relationship with Mr Sancho for more than a year.

The couple had travelled to Surat Thani’s Koh Phangan to attend a Full Moon party. When Arrieta’s relatives couldn’t reach him, they phoned Mr Sancho, who indicated he hadn’t seen him yet.

    No motivation for the Murder
The victim’s relatives then contacted the tourist police to investigate the hotel room he had reserved, but there was no trace of him. They eventually discovered that Mr Sancho had booked in alone at the hotel and then checked out before the victim arrived.

“We don’t know what motivated the murder yet.” “At first, we thought it was jealousy,” Pol Lt Gen Surapong explained.

“The investigation discovered that Daniel Sancho had thoroughly prepared by purchasing other items for concealing the body.” He showed apparent indications of stress after being jailed for immigration violations and having his visa cancelled, but he refused to confess.

“I have directed police to keep a close eye on him in case he decides to commit suicide.”

The chief of the Koh Phangan police station, Pol Col Panya Nirattimanon, said on Saturday that Mr Sancho appeared worried and didn’t sleep after being taken in for interrogation in connection with the disappearance of the Colombian national on Friday.

According to a police source, Mr Sancho informed investigators following questioning that he had taken Arrieta to his room. He stated the dude requested sex with him but he declined.

He attacked his companion in a fit of rage, leading the victim to collapse and lose consciousness after banging his head on a bathtub. Mr Sancho then decided to cut the body into 14 pieces and pack some of the pieces in a travel bag. He also put some pieces in plastic bags and threw them away.

He took the luggage bag and dumped it in the sea near his hotel at Salad beach. He then went back to his hotel and checked out at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

He later went to a Full Moon party at the hotel with two women he knew. After leaving the party, he proceeded to the police station and filed a missing person report for his Colombian friend, who had gone AWOL.

Maybe it was, as ‘Arry thought, because his lover had become a coon and turned black.

As if any more reasons to give Koh Pangan a swerve at full moon were needed.

Off to the beach with a bag of body parts

Spanish chef faces murder charge in Phangan dismemberment case

A screenshot from a security camera on Koh Phangan allegedly shows Spaniard Daniel Sancho Bronchalo transporting a bag stuffed with the body parts of his Colombian victim Edwin Arrieta Arteaga on a motorcycle to a kayak before dumping the bag into the sea.

Kayak believed used by alleged killer on Koh Phangan found
On Saturday, police found a kayak left on Salat beach, about 300 metres from the hotel where the murder took place. It was believed to be the boat used by the Spaniard to dispose of the suitcase.

Two women identified as Tuk and Kanda, the owners of the kayak, were taken by police for questioning. They told them that at about 9pm on Tuesday the Spanish man came to their shop and asked to rent a boat. They initially turned down the request as it might not be safe for the tourist to use it at night. The man became frustrated and insisted on taking the boat.

He offered to buy it for 1,000 US dollars and they agreed, said the women
