Bottoms Up to Clarity on Alcohol Laws

I didn't realise the vote to open the brewing industry was so close. The big two are going to have to spend big to preserve their monopoly if a bill is reintroduced.

Last year on Nov 2, the Progressive Liquor Bill proposed by the opposition Move Forward Party (MFP) almost won approval with 194 votes in favour of from the House of Representatives, narrowly losing by two votes to 196 against the bill.

Crony capitalism facilitated by a succession of fascist juntas has created a modern Thailand where monopolies dictate the market and the greater proportion of the occupational workforce of 38 millions earn between 12,000 and 16,000 baht per month.

Nothing short of a revolution will alter the bleak future for over 75% of those workers shackled by the vice like grip of those self serving crony capitalists exploiting them.

Breaking the beverage monopoly is a start but the Thai-Chinese don’t like competition and certainly will not countenance reduced profits that goes with it. They’ll continue to flood the labour market with migrant Cambodians and Burmese rather than employ Thai at competitive wages.

Shitty people, shitty society, shitty country.

I never drink Thai beer, it's all disgusting piss.

I would welcome some worthwhile competition.

It's so weird to me how so many of you only eat the finest food, holiday in the finest places and only drink imported alcohol. yet here you are on Teak Door. A cesspit of a Thai forum.

To be honest, I'm guessing that if you can afford it, why settle for less than what you think is the finest? I do agree with your sentiment though and for most foreigners, local = shit whereas shit from home is much superior.

I drink Asahi (brewed in Thailand) in my own bars and LEO pretty much everywhere else.

I'm not that fussy to be honest, I'll drink whatever's going.

    8 days sober tho.

Yes, there's a great place in Thonglor. But such places are hard to find and they can't package for sale off-premises.

I think that's the major issue addressed by the bill, previously the criteria to do so were deliberately onerous.

I did laugh last night as someone told me the big two were keen for the bill to go through. Which is a bit of a fucking joke when they're the reason for the restrictions in the first place.
The next post may be brought to you by my little bitch Spamdreth

The only way I can drink Thai beer is if it's so cold that it disables the taste buds.

I'm sure almost any bar owner will tell you they sell more LEO or Chang than any other beer by a landslide.

Even the Chang is not so bad these days but I'm happier to see that an event is sponsored by LEO when I arrive.

I'll be making my own soon.

    Cost is an important factor.

Hopefully we will start seeing deals and promotions in the supermarkets if the industry opens up.

    I doubt it though...

I've been watching this closely for a while now and I'm starting to get a bit excited if I'm being honest.
