Sales of Alcoholic Beverages During Songkran Soar by 30%

Thailand has seen a 30% surge in booze sales during the recent Songkran festival in contrast to a declined number of drunk traffic accidents nationally during the festival year over year, according to Thanakorn Kuptachit, an advisor to the Thai Alcohol Business Association.

Other related businesses such as restaurants, entertainment venues, hotels, and event organizers also benefited from the festivity.

Thanakorn said it was notable that this year’s accident statistics during Songkran saw lower cases of drink-related accidents compared to last year, as people were more careful while travelling and took responsibility by not drinking before driving despite the fact that this was the first full-on Songkran in four years.

Speaking on behalf of the association, Thanakorn urged the new government being elected in May to fast track the extension of legal closing times for nightspots and cancel the alcohol sale prohibition between 2 PM to 5 PM in tourist spots in order to stir up spirit and tourism businesses.

One of the things I love about the PI is there are no time restrictions when it comes to buying alcohol or restricted sales during holidays and such.

I actually find the thai are rulesy rulesy when it suits em,and when it dont they just bend the rules to suit. The philippines is probably the most laid back country you will find, as long as your behaving yourself and not being a coont you are welcomed. Fantastic place.

The first time the young beerlao drinker went there i was 18 marcos was in power since then ive constantlt visited sometimes 3 times a year if i could afford it. Eventually i ended up working there for a mining/ exploration company mostly province way out in bum fuk. But i enjoyed it because i got to interact with the locals , previous to the 2 years i worked there i was pretty much a sex pest and i had always seen the philippines and filipinos through the bottom.of a beer glass. In my humble opinion. One of the most under rated countrys in asia.

I seem to remember in Phuket back in the day you couldn't buy a six pack but you could buy a whole case. Not sure if that was law or something they just made up.

Here in CM they just rope off the booze section.

I hate it. It's peak beer drinking time. Get home at 3:30-4pm and realise there's no beer in the fridge so then have to wait it out till 5pm before even going to the shop.
