The 300-baht tourism fee faces a delay in implementation, beginning in the fourth quarter at the earliest, while the cancellation of Thailand Pass is expected from July 1, according to the Tourism and Sports Ministry.
"Fee collection for tourists arriving by land requires further study, such as determining if the fee amount should be less than 300 baht because the average length of stay for these visitors is only 1-2 nights," said Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Tourism and Sports Minister.
The tourism fee was previously on the agenda for the cabinet meeting this week, but the ministry withdrew the proposal to sort out fee collection for land entry.
He said the ministry plans to resubmit the proposal to the cabinet within two months, with fee collection beginning 90 days after publication in the Royal Gazette. The starting date for fee collection is likely to be delayed from between August and September to the final quarter this year or the first quarter of 2023 at the latest, said Mr Phiphat.

Will the compulsary Covid insurance still be required tho?,
Such an easy scam to extort foreigners for virtually useless "cover" will IMHO continue ad infinitum.

Sadly like the O-A visa the hungry snouts see a soft target with no pushback and may creep into non O or even tourist visas.

Unless they want the chaos hassle of cash at arrivals like the old 500 baht exit tax it has to be built into airline tickets which are sold up to 12 months ahead.

Just imagine Swampy dawn 1000s of Poms, keks and chinkies searching for crisi $10 or 300 baht before the passed immi ATM machines, perhaps "BLING POWER" will set up exchange booths, change your arm or kid for 300 etc

The muppets could not run a free election in a submarine, they should be handing 300 b sims to encourage the desperately needed tourist income. Some of those 1000 baht $300 a day or less backpackers will baulk at eve such a tax if on land borders.

I am in UK, flight booked to return 27th. I still need to do Thailand Pass.

Can anyone tell me: My visa is until March 2023. Do I really need to buy 9 months of Covid insurance?

What if I buy a flexible ticket to KL in 2 weeks but then don't go?

What if I say I plan to go overland to Laos after two weeks, but then change my mind?

I'd appreciate any tips. I know there is another thread about entry conditions, I can't find it.

Buy a return ticket endorsed for travel in a month's time back to your point of departure and produce a policy for a month's holiday. Once in, cancel your booking leaving it open - you will need to buy a flexible ticket. There are cheap covid insurers offering policies for a year to cover the new rules that you can buy online from abroad at a premium based on period of cover, the cheapest is with FWD at around 4,000 baht for 700k baht cover but 11,000 baht for 1.7 million baht cover. Policy is age blind and applies to all equally between 1 - 85. NB: it only covers health problems stemming from COVID infection.

Up to you.

Just checked MSIG, they do a policy of cover for all health expenses up to 400,000 baht at a premium based on your travel of 14,000 baht.

Also, on checking the published rules as it stands I think immigration want cover for the duration of your visa/extension so fucking around with flights might b a no-no. Maybe best to taki out the 270 day insurance.

better still, postpone your arrival by 5 days, then you wont need either the silly thai pass or the even sillier covid insurance.

The ministry also plans to propose on June 17 the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) terminate Thailand Pass registration for international visitors from July 1.

"Eliminating the Thailand Pass system means tourists don't have to buy travel insurance anymore, which should help make travel more convenient," he said.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) governor Yuthasak Supasorn said the agency will discuss with tourism operators this Friday about other urgent inquiries before the next CCSA meeting.

As it stands, taking out the minimum cover with FWD might b cheaper than paying to alter flight.

It's a really grey area it seems; I would ask your local immigration office and get something in writing that you can wave at Bkk immigration on your way back in if needed.

Throw away ticket $30-40 to neighbouring country or a nice visa run to kl etc

I cannot endorse as never use and have no cash/visa issues but a guy I know has used.

Onward Ticket - In less than 2 minutes & valid for 2 weeks

The time and hassle of being refused boarding inclines me to get a full price return .tv suggests 30 days insurance seems enogh and as ohers say it may all change soon.

The cost of Covid insurance is piffling now that it has dropped to $10,000 cover.

For fuck’s sake, fly before July and punt 4,000 baht for FWD policy or wait until the protocol is abandoned totally, allegedly by 1 July.

This of course is based on TAT asking the CCSA to get rid of it.

Whether the General listens is of course another story. If he's getting a substantial cake tin from the insurance companies to keep it going, who knows?
