Now, I don't often (read never) defer to FOX News, but on this occasion, they seem to have a balanced 'Expert' viewpoint on the sacking of the Aircraft Carrier Captain/Boss ... what ever his Naval title is.
Bogan, I think it was the realisation that their predilection for incoherent, cack-handed imbecility was no longer an amusing national characteristic offering hours of innocent casual fun but was in fact a malicious expression of oppression victimising all who fell foul of it, particularly against farang who are increasingly being scapegoated for Thai incompetence and utter stupidity.
I think most of us have a capacity for enduring what might be disagreeable but in the end resources are not infinite and that includes the reservoir of tolerance. In the end, enough is enough.
Racism by oiks and fools is one thing, but when it is actively practised by government pandering to their ignorant and lumpen hordes too stupid to think for themselves then it's tim to up stumps.
This unfolding passive-aggressive schtick getting churned out every year by the Thai is really quite nasty and I simply do not have to take it.
Having made our minds up we feel quite liberated.

I got Battyboob's number yonks ago, he's just another impoverished neurotic failure eking out a living in some undemanding backwater biding his time, waiting until his folks croak it and he inherits enough dosh to return to Blighty with his squaw whose settlement visa he will then afford.
No, No, No, No !
Seekingwhatever is a classic and he has to remain on board. I like the guy even though we called each others names and insult each other. But at the end of the day it's kiss and make up. C'mon its a forum. Unless you are a thin skinned, hopeless, religious nutter
You were here as a shagging dissolute on a work permit enjoying the 'belle epoch' of Bangers, Butters, we came as a retiree couple.
I have to say I never in my naivety ever thought the Thai would gravitate towards the degree of institutional racism that has been manifested over the past five years.
This " dirty farang has caused COVID plague" schtick is the final straw.
I'm doing quite well financially, thank you, and have no intention of going back to the UK for anything other than rare visits. Korea is nice, another 5 years or so here will be just fine. Maybe another 10 years, might even buy an apartment/house here - nice part of the world, lots of places to travel to easily too.
Anyways, where are you planning to head off to when you leave Thailand?
As far as "Thai racism" goes, they are exactly the same as they were 25 years ago. If you're spending money then they'll smile at you and be nice. If you're struggling through on a low pension, not adding much to the local economy then they'd rather you piss off somewhere else; particular the foreigners who feel themselves superior to the locals, as they are chasing balloons around Pattaya in hope of a free sausage...
Cycling should be banned!!!
I don't believe a word! There is more to this.
One thing I do know: "Another classic example of how Trump fuc* up every Department there is in the Divided States of America"
C'mon! Even little HtG who used to work for the U.S..... had to say on the phone "General Herman speaking how can I help you..."THIS LINE IS NOT SECURE".
And now you are telling us he was sending e-mails like a housewife. Naaaaa sorry, there is more to that story.
Sorry have to disagree! We are all racists trying to protect our .....? This covid-19 is bringing out the best in us. Mask are being robbed at airports, the Mossad and CIA is organizing/stealing supplies from other countries. And the good will people like Aunty are scratiching their ass and wondering what is going on.....like always
Fritz, I see you have taken the drink route as your pathway to self isolation.
I came here full time for work (sans Work Permit, mind you didn't need one) and really enjoyed the first 5 years, and would do it again if the conditions were the same. It's just Thailand has gone to shit since 2012, and gone to total shit after 2015. All good things have an end, and this is it for Thailand.
you should have done your research before moving there, I know I did. I knew of the institutional racism, they even had a complete chapter in Lonely Planet about it, my daily reading when I first come to Thailand
the secret sauce for a successful expat experience is not to stay too long, maybe 5 or 7 years max and then move on.
Alternatively, if the conditions are really great (like in France, or Italy, or Portugal, or even beautiful Australia or part of the US), then it's a one way trip
would you anyone take that chance here? I know I wouldn't, country is a fun for being cahotic, but eventually that gets old
Coronavirus Update (Live): 1,121,973 Cases and 59,403 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Outbreak - Worldometer
Overview of current Covid 19 data
As of Today - There have been a total of 1,121,973 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Of these 59,403 have died.
Reported Statistic: There are 144 cases per million of population and there are 8 deaths per million of population.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________________
So, in broad terms, your chances of contracting the Covid-19 Virus are 144 in a million, and your chances of dying of the Covid-19 Virus are 8 in a million.
So, if you are unlucky enough to contract the virus, 144 in a million is/are pretty slim chances, AND, you are 80+ years old, there is a 15% chance you will die of it.
Or, stated another way – There is an 85% chance you will survive.
Now, the 70-79 years old, again, being unlucky enough to contract the virus 144 in a million, you chances of surviving are 92%, 60-69 ‘tis 96% and 50-59, well just under 99%.
Stated another way, if your age is in the 80+ years old group, then your chances of dying of the Covid-19 virus are about 22 in a million
The 70-79 year olds have about a 12 in a million chance and the 60-69 year olds have a 6 in a million chance.
Now, if you are under the ripe old age of sixty, well, you have the proverbial ”one in a million chance” of dying of Covid-19.
And, to expand on this, these are todays figures – as times passes and further preventative measures are applied and enforced, your chances for survival will improve.
On a different note:
I was always a firm believer of a military draft, instead of paid mercenaries.
Civilians with military background experience could be of great value right now. Not to forget the ones that didn't want to serve, and did their time in civil services are also being missed dearly.
Times are not going to get better with humans spreading like cancer and climate change being on the rise. It's time to re-think.
....see what I mean
He's always there when you need him.
Self isolation my ass !
Speaking of drinking, going out to the garden now to have a few beers and heat up my Dutch Oven. Home made smoked pork, with home made (pickled) cabbage, and potatoes.
Cheers my friends, stay safe and healthy.
Even if my chances of dying are only 1 in a million, I believe it can leave some people with severe lung damage.
Yup - waiting for the smoke to clear. After the data comes in. It will be of great interest to see how the impact of air pollution, adverse occupational environmental hazards and smoking in general impact both susceptibility and survivability of this infection/disease.
I watched my grandfather die a slow and agonizing death from oxygen starvation aka the black lung, occupational hazard of being a strip coal miner. Not a pretty way to die.
With my military charity work I've have seen many good people carrying portable oxygen tanks around. Having damaged lungs is a burden no one should have to bear. And, this Covid-19, as with other corona class viruses, directly attacks your lungs.
