China did that early on ...

All Chinese banks must now literally launder their cash, disinfecting it with ultraviolet light and high temperatures, then storing it for seven to 14 days before releasing it to customers, said the central Chinese government

Cash that comes from high-risk infection areas, like hospitals and wet markets, will be "specially treated" and sent back to the central bank instead of being recirculated.
And in the central bank's Guangzhou branch, these high-risk banknotes may be destroyed instead of merely disinfected, according to state-run tabloid Global Times.
To make up for the supply, the bank will issue large amounts of new, uninfected cash; in January, the bank allocated 4 billion yuan (about $573.5 million) in new banknotes to Wuhan, the Chinese city where the outbreak began, said the government press release.

Given that they dragged their feet early on and nobody trusts them at the best of times, I think the Chinese are doing well in their coordinated actions against further infection.

Sure it's easier to rule by decree in controlled societies over free and unfettered with strictures against bothering the people, but they seem to be doing more to contain it than the rest of the world, esp the 'advanced' countries. While some measures may seem ott, the only way we can more reliably find out is by waiting to see the results of not imposing them.

This one may be an unproductive use of resources, since a clean coin or note could become infected the moment it is used, making it no safer than an old one. Still, what a brouhaha if some western gov came up with the idea of ordering banks to launder their coins and notes.

The Olympic contract, from my understanding only says to be staged in 2020 ... they could delay the Games?

Work has instigated a text alert under their business continuity planning system. The idea is that if a site gets closed that they text employees to notify them and for them to work/stay at home, you have to respond as well so they know you are OK. This perhaps belongs in the Daily Moan thread, today i have received 6 texts as part of their system tests, i get 6 because i get them from all the sites i work at. I suppose there isn't a way to dial this into my calendar which shows where i am due to be working, i did ask the HR head if i was on some kind of suicide watch list.

Egypt has said it has detected 12 new coronavirus cases on “a Nile cruise ship coming from Aswan to Luxor,” a joint statement by the health ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO) said, bringing the total number of cases observed in the country to 15.Health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said the detection came after information from WHO that a Taiwanese-American tourist, who was on board the cruise, had tested positive after returning home.
Megahed said the ministry has followed up on medical conditions of those who were in contact with the tourist over the past fourteen days and they did not show any symptoms.
However, the 12 cases, all Egyptian workers on the ship, tested positive after a PCR test was carried out following the conclusion of the 14-day incubation period.
The 12 cases have been referred to an isolation hospital, with others believed to be in contact with them currently placed in quarantine for 14 days, to follow up on their health conditions.
Friday's announcement comes one day after Egypt announced the first confirmed case in the country of an Egyptian, a recent returnee from Europe.

This could be bad for the tourist industry in Thailand.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - The Thai government on Thursday announces new compulsory quarantine measure for arrivals from four countries and two territories in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The move came as the Thai postal service began disinfecting all packages received from overseas, although the World Health Organization has said it is safe to receive post from badly affected countries such as China.

The quarantine announcement, published in the official Royal Gazette on Thursday, classified South Korea, China, Macao, Hong Kong, Italy and Iran as "dangerous communicable disease areas".

This means that all arrivals from these places, including those that transit through them, will have to provide the authorities with their address and travel plan and be self-quarantined for 14 days.

"Thais and foreigners who came from these places will have to go through self-quarantine for 14 days at home or in a hotel room, where they have to report themselves to the authorities every day or officials will come to check on them," health ministry spokesman Rungrueng Kitphati told Reuters.

Those that breached the quarantined will face 20,000 baht ($630) fine, Rungrueng said.

What Thailand needs is a handy Koh Lazarette where tourists can be received and 'hosted' for the duration of their stay.

Including transit?? Faaark. Given that Hong Kong is a pretty major transit hub, that would be thousands of people a day i would have thought.
