TMD issues warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms resulting from ‘DANAS’

On Thursday morning, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued the 7th warning about tropical storm DANAS since Tuesday, saying it is likely to move, from the Philippines’ Luzon, north and north-eastward into the East China Sea.

The influence of DANAS will push a strong southwest monsoon across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand which on 18th and 19th July and will bring outbreaks of heavy rain to the South, the East and the lower Central regions. People should beware of flash floods and water runoff, according to the warning.

TMD predicts the waves in the Andaman Sea to be 2-3 meters and about 2 meters in the Gulf of Thailand, although they will be over 3 meters high in storm areas. It advised that all ships proceed with caution, and small boats remain ashore.

Possible isolated heavy rains are forecast for:

    • July 18th – Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Lop Buri and Saraburi, Sa Kaeo, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.
    • July 19th – Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Lop Buri and Saraburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.
