    Extensive flu outbreak in provinces

BANGKOK, 3 July 2019(NNT) - Due to the hot, humid and volatile weather since the beginning of June this year, there is a higher number of influenza patients in many provinces and the outbreak is likely to spread. In Chaiyaphum, there have been more than 2,200 influenza patients this year.

Dr. Wachira Botphiboon, Head of Chaiyaphum Provincial Office of Public Health, disclosed that over 2,200 patients with influenza had been admitted to health care facilities in Chaiyaphum and the number is likely to increase. However, no deaths have been reported.

Both type A and B influenza were found. Influenza can be transmitted by coughing, sneezing or in bodily secretions. Prevention can be helped by wearing a mask when coughing or sneezing. Risk groups are include the obese, pregnant women, patients with chronic diseases such as asthma, chronic lung disease, Cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Children aged 6 months to 2 years and persons aged 65 and above should receive influenza vaccinations to reduce the severity of the disease.

In Uthai Thani, Dr. Suchin Khansorn, Director of Thap Than Hospital, has dispatched hospital staff, staff from all Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospitals and health volunteers in Thap Than district to offer free influenza vaccines to the target groups in villages. Bed-ridden patients will receive the influenza vaccine at home. In Thap Than district, Uthai Thani province, there are more than 4,000 people in the target groups who need to be vaccinated.

Missus and granddaughter just got over a bout. Mild case, lasted 3 days. I somehow avoided catching it. Knock on wood.
